De Jong has not featured for the club this season due to a knee injury but is now back in full training and closing in on a comeback. Flick has been asked about the current plan for De Jong and says he’s not too far off being able to play again. “He might be available against Betis,” he told a press conference on Friday. “His recovery is progressing well, there’s no pain, but he needs time and we’re going to give it to him.” The return of De Jong will give Flick yet another midfield option at a busy period in the season. Barca face Getafe, Betis, Real Madrid and Alaves in La Liga in October, while they must also play Paris Saint-Germain and Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Real Madrid announce squad for La Liga match against Villarreal
Real Madrid have published their squad list for Saturday’s match against Villarreal, the first game after the FIFA break. REAL MADRID SQUAD LIST: Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin, and Sergio Mestre. Defenders: Trent, Konaté, Cucurella, Á. Carreras, Rüdiger, and Dumfries. Midfielders: Bellingham, Camavinga, Valverde, Tchouameni, Arda Güler, Bernardo, and Thiago. Forwards: Vini Jr., Endrick, Mbappé, C. Espí, Brahim, and Yan Diomande. Valverde, Konaté and Mbappé all made the list even though they were ‘questionable’ during the week. Victor admitted sessions can be brutal at times – remembering a clip that went viral where he and Gavi were shown collapsing in a heap after one particular play. “Flick demands a lot from you in training, in more than one session I left feeling dizzy,” he told Cadena Ser. The Portuguese has given a new interview where he has discussed his “bad luck” with referees and his experience of being at Madrid during the Negreira years. “I don’t think the problem is me,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “The problem is the bad luck I have when I arrive at a particular club. I experienced Negreira’s important period here at Real Madrid. Nobody knew it, but we lived through it. It happened. It happened. “I left afterwards, now everyone knows. But I was thinking about something: in Turkey, after a big Turkish scandal, this kind of situation happened to me often.” The Negreira Case has been back in the headlines recently after Madrid’s latest move, with Los Blancos believed to be ‘convinced’ action will be taken against Barca. The events have led La Liga president Javier Tebas to respond and to criticize Madrid. Tebas said the Negreira case is “extremely serious” and needs investigating but blasted Madrid for continuing with a “narrative that Negreira continues to influence Spanish refereeing today.”

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas: ‘If I said I wouldn’t want to return to Barça, I’d be lying’

He currently plays for RCD Mallorca in the second division, having gone through spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal. Mostly a backup with those latter clubs, he has become a standout at Mallorca, keeping six clean sheets in eight starts. In a new interview on Catalan radio, Tenas said he was “very happy in Mallorca” and his mission now is to “to take Mallorca where it deserves to be—that is, in the First Division.” Having previously played in Ligue 1 in France and La Liga in Spain, both top divisions, going to the second division could be seen as the wrong move. Tenas disagreed, saying, “People have a lot of prejudices, but for me, it’s not a step backward—it’s a huge step forward.” Despite his satisfaction at his current club, Tenas admitted, “If I said I wouldn’t want to return to Barça, I’d be lying; it would be like coming home.” During his time at La Masia and the B team, Tenas played alongside current Barça stars like Gavi, Pau Cubarsí, Xavi Espart, and Eric Garcia. He also played alongside Kylian Mbappé at PSG. “He is a very good teammate, personable, and trained well,” Tenas said. Speaking about the current team at Barcelona, Tenas singled out Brazilian star Raphinha. “I’m really happy for Raphinha. Really happy for him,” he said. “Some people don’t see everything going on behind the scenes, and there were times when he was really struggling. What is he doing this season so far? What’s gotten into him? It’s incredible. He’s a beast.” Tenas joins Diego Kochen as another former Barcelona goalkeeper publicly stating their dream of a homecoming this week. Kochen recently debuted for the United States national team, first as a substitute. He then got his first start, where he kept a clean sheet against Mexico. He currently plays club football for Lyngby Boldklub in the Danish Superliga. “It’d be any kid’s dream to go back to such a big club,” Kochen said about a possible return to Barcelona.

Real Madrid are taking a cautious approach with Kylian Mbappé’s recovery from the knee injury he picked up during the FIFA break but the French striker will almost surely be available to face Villarreal this Saturday, according to a report published today on MARCA. That doesn’t mean that the Frenchman will start, though. Real Madrid will play a tough away game against Roma next week and Mourinho could decide to keep Mbappé fresh for the European match. Still, it seems clear that the French star will be more than ready for El Clásico later this month, which was always the main priority right after he was diagnosed with the hyper-extended knee.

Militao, Konaté complete Tuesday’s training session with Real Madrid’s squad
Real Madrid defenders Ibrahima Konaté and Eder Militao rejoined the squad in training this Tuesday and were able to complete the session with the group, meaning that both of them could be available to face Villarreal next Saturday. Needless to say, Militao will need extra time to improve his conditioning before he can actually feature in the starting lineup. He missed the entire preseason stage with his injury and Mourinho and the rest of the coaching staff will need to make sure that he’s 100% ready to play. On the other hand, Konaté could very well start against Villarreal if he keeps training with the group during the rest of the week.

The Dutchman has been working separately as he recovers from an injury sustained at the World Cup but was with the group on Tuesday. Barcelona are reportedly going easy on De Jong currently and are hoping he can be given the green light to return to competitive action at the end of this month. Hansi Flick was also able to welcome back Karim Adeyemi from international duty as well as he focuses on the return of La Liga and a game with Getafe on Saturday. Adeyemi was released early from the Germany squad, with Jurgen Klopp using two squads for his fixtures over the international break as he runs the rule over a host of players. The rest of the internationals will return later in the week as Barcelona aim to get back to work and continue thei perfect start to the season.

Hansi Flick to take cautious approach with Raphinha return to Barcelona lineup after injury with Brazil
Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images | Getty Images Raphinha is back in Catalonia and set for further tests after leaving the Brazil camp having suffered what seems to be a minor hamstring injury in Tuesday’s friendly against Australia, but his boss at Barcelona will be very careful even if the captain isn’t seriously injured. According to MARCA, Hansi Flick will take a cautious approach and only bring Raphinha back into the lineup once he feels full confidence in his captain’s fitness, and a rest in the next La Liga at home to Getafe is the most likely outcome for Barça’s first game back from the international break. The report says Flick blames himself for Raphinha’s absence through injury in important moments last season, including both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal exit to Atlético Madrid. Flick does not want to repeat the same mistake this time around and will give his captain the proper time to recover, and he’s already weighing the options to replace Raphinha in the game against Getafe. It doesn’t seem like it’s a serious injury this time, but Flick will be cautious nonetheless. And that’s good to see.

OFFICIAL: UEFA open investigation into Barcelona over Negreira case
UEFA have published a statement announcing that they’ve opened an investigation into FC Barcelona over the documents that Real Madrid sent their way in recent months. UEFA can confirm that it has received from Real Madrid CF a substantial amount of documents related to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona in the matter involving José María Enríquez Negreira , former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (the so-called “Negreira case”). UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have also received these latest documents, which they will assess as part of their ongoing review of the case. Real Madrid believe that some kind of punishment will be handed to Barcelona, according to reports published in the Spanish press. However, fans should not expect a quick resolution on this case.

Espart is currently thriving in the first team at Barcelona, while Goren and Tunkara will be hoping they can follow in his footsteps and go on and make the breakthrough at Camp Nou.

Barcelona to return to Olympic Stadium for first half of 2027-28 season

(Photo by Nicolò Campo/LightRocket via Getty Images) | LightRocket via Getty Images Barcelona will back back at Montjuic in the Olympic Stadium next season as the club aim to finish redevelopment work at the Camp Nou and install a new roof. The Catalans have spent time in the stadium over the last few seasons and will start the 2027-28 campaign at Montjuic, according to ESPN. The report adds that Barcelona may end up playing the first half of the season away from Camp Nou as they are not scheduled to return to their famous home until January 2028. The capacity is set to be increased to around 95,000 when Barcelona do move back in and will then finally reach 105,000 when the redevelopment work is finally completed. Barcelona will be hoping that the work is completed on time, particularly as there were delays in the initial redevelopment work which ultimately saw the team spend more time at Montjuic than originally planned. Camp Nou has already been confirmed as the venue for the 2029 Champions League final, with Joan Laporta also hoping the 2030 World Cup final can be played at Barcelona’s home.

There were tensions between Spain and Barcelona before the World Cup due to the use of Lamine Yamal, with Flick critical of La Roja after the teenager was given painkillers to play. De la Fuente said he was “surprised” by Flick’s comments at the time but now says all is well between the two coaches and has praised the German for the work he’s doing at Camp Nou. “I have a very good relationship with Hansi Flick, just so you know. Spectacular. I love him. Barça is on another level. Betis is also doing well. I think they’re the two teams that are playing the best right now,” he told AS. “Barça reminds me of when people used to say, ‘They don’t have a center forward.’ And I’d say, ‘Please, I’m amazed.’ Barça is going to play without a center forward? Well, thank goodness. With Raphinha in the form he is, and Gabriel Jesus and Dani Olmo even playing there, they’re doing fantastically.” De la Fuente has called up seven Barcelona players over the international break. The world champions are back in action first up on Saturday night against England in the Nations League.

OFFICIAL: Valverde injury report
Real Madrid have publish a definitive injury report on midfielder Fede Valverde, who suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday’s Madrid Derbi against Atlético de Madrid. After the tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain in his left ankle. Pending evolution. Source: Realmadrid.com Valverde is expected to rejoin the squad in around two weeks and he should be able to face Villarreal in the first game after the current FIFA break, according to reports from the Spanish press. He will not play in Uruguay’s upcoming games and will stay in Valdebebas recovering from this injury sustained after a violent tackle from Kang In Lee.

Gavi says that Yamal is always surprising his team-mates on the training ground and thinks he has the required mentality to go on and become a true great of the game. “He’s amazing. The guy is really good, and in training he surprises you even more,” he told Men’s Health. “I just hope he keeps improving. He knows his potential; he could be one of the best of all time. But I see him as mentally sound, which is ultimately what matters. “He has things clear in his mind, and he still has a long career ahead of him. He has to keep going like this every day because, as I said before, the present is what counts. He’ll be under intense scrutiny every day.” Yamal will be hoping to add more trophies to his collection this season. He’s among the favorites for the Ballon d’Or and has already made it clear the Champions League is the team’s “main goal” for 2026-27.

It’s high time we give the game time to the hungry, starving children from our castilla. I don’t care anymore about the potential fallout. LIMITATIONS A “wise” coach once said “It’s my job to tell the players what to do, and if they don’t do it, it’s because I didn’t explain it well, so it’s my fault” – Alvaro Arbeloa. THAT COULDN’T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. If your players are limited, they’re limited. Accept it and tactically work around it to compensate or purchase a player of a higher capacity to fill the role/task. Fede & Tchouameni aren’t working well in the 4-2-3-1, Fede is hardly noticeable. He seems to excel everywhere else except in midfield. Outside of his work rate, speed and power shot, he offers next to nothing for our play going forward. Tchouameni too has hardly maintained any kind of consistency, despite being given endless playing time.

Atlético Madrid 2-1 Real Madrid (Rüdiger). A bad defeat in the derby… Here is my reaction to the loss. Still to come: Player ratings, Mourinho quotes and a derby podcast. Real Betis were the only stain on an otherwise positive start to life back at the Bernabéu front José Mourinho. Atletico Madrid would be his strongest challenge yet. There were no surprises in the line-up, with Yan Diomancde returning to the bench alongside names like Eduardo Camavinga and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Christensen started the game in the heart of the defence alongside Pau Cubarsi and picked up an assist for Barcelona’s equaliser from Raphinha. The Brazilian scored again in the second half to make it 2-1 but Christensen didn’t see out the game as he was forced out on the hour after picking up what looked to be a muscle injury. Hansi Flick sent on Gerard Martin in his place but will be hoping that Christensen’s injury is not serious. The problem does at least come at a relatively good time for Barca as La Liga is about to pause for a three-week international break. Christensen had been called up by Denmark for games against Norway, Wales and Portugal but it looks now as if he’ll have to drop out.

Espart’s emergence has been one of the highlights of the season so far for Barcelona, with the youngster impressing at left-back for Hansi Flick’s side and scoring his first senior goal. Gordo says he’s been really impressed by Espart and has also compared him to one of his Barcelona team-mates. “I like seeing teams betting on him. Of course, I’m amazed when I see Under-21 players performing at that level. Xavi is a former Under-19 champion,” he told reporters. “His best quality is his excellent understanding of the game, space, and timing. And he can do it from any position. He’s decisive as a central midfielder and as a full-back. He’s very intelligent. “He’s always one step ahead. In some ways, he reminds me of Pedri because of his understanding of the game. It seems like time moves differently for him.” Spain’s Under-21s are due to play Finland, San Marino and Romania over the next few weeks in Euro qualifying.
