Barcelona facing big decision on Toni Fernandez’s future amid Sevilla interest
BARCELONA, SPAIN - OCTOBER 18: Toni Fernandez of FC Barcelona reacts during the LaLiga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona and Girona FC at Spotify Camp Nou on October 18, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona appear to be facing a big decision on Toni Fernandez’s future this summer amid interest from Sevilla. Fernandez is yet another exciting star to emerge from La Masia but it seems the time has come to decide where his future lies. The talented winger will turn 18 in July and has spent the last two seasons with Barca Atletic. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club now feel that the Second Division “is no longer enough for him” and must decide on next steps. Barca could obviously decide to promote Fernandez to Hansi Flick’s first team but an exit is not being ruled, with Sevilla believed to be tracking his progress. Sevilla are currently going through big changes and are reportedly on the verge of a takeover by an investment group led by Sergio Ramos, They are unlikely to be the only club interested if Barca do decide Fernandez needs a change of scenery. There’s already been speculation that Barca could send the youngster out to Real Oviedo on loan in a bid to gain more experience. What do you think would be best for Toni Fernandez next season? Would you like to see him given a first-team chance or is a loan spell away from the club a more suitable option? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

‘He deserves it’ – Deco gives his verdict on Marcus Rashford’s season at Barcelona
VITORIA-GASTEIZ, SPAIN - 2026/05/13: Marcus Rashford (FC Barcelona) seen in action during LaLiga EA SPORTS game between Deportivo Alaves and FC Barcelona at Mendizorroza Stadium. Final scores; Deportivo Alaves 1-0 FC Barcelona. (Photo by Maciej Rogowski/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images) Barcelona sporting director Deco has given his verdict on Marcus Rashford’s season at the club and says the Manchester United loanee fully deserved to win La Liga. Rashford scored eight goals and contributed seven assists in 32 La Liga outings for Hansi Flick’s side as the Catalans succesfully retained their title. Deco has praised Rashford for his contribution and says he did a great job for the club. “Marcus has helped us a lot because he came on loan, it is not easy to come on loan as a player like him because he is a top player,” he told BBC Sport. “He helped us a lot because he had the responsibility to replace Raphinha, it is not easy but he did very well. Sometimes he [is] on the bench and it’s not easy but he reacted very well and he did everything. “His season was very good and we are happy he won La Liga with us. He deserves [it], he works a lot and works hard to be here. We are happy with him.” Deco also had particular praise for Rashford’s brilliant goal against Real Madrid. His stunning free-kick came in a Clasico win that delivered the title for Barca and certainly impressed Deco. “We knew he had these kinds of skills, I saw him scoring at United many times, but this goal was unbelievable. It was a fantastic goal,” he added. Deco didn’t talk about Rashford’s future at the club which remains uncertain. The forward made his intentions clear after scoring his Clasico stunner, saying: “I’m not a magician but if I was I would stay at Barcelona. We will see.”

Anthony Gordon prioritising Barcelona over Bayern and Liverpool after Deco talks
NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - MARCH 22: Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United (10) celebrates after scoring Newcastle's opening goal during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Sunderland at St James' Park on March 22, 2026 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. (Photo by Serena Taylor/Newcastle United via Getty Images) Anthony Gordon’s name is reportedly back on the agenda at Barcelona and is another reason why Deco took a trip to London in the last few days. An exclusive report from Mundo Deportivo states that Deco made the trip to discuss moves for Joao Pedro and Gordon and adds the Newcastle star is now prioritising a move to Camp Nou. Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also keen on the England international, but Gordon’s “greatest desire” is to play for Barcelona. Barcelona are said to be willing a offer five-year contract and see Gordon’s wage demands as affordable. The transfer fee might be a problem, however, as Newcastle value Gordon at around €85-90 million. Gordon would be brought in to strengthen Barca’s left flank but he can also play as a striker. MD say Barca are also still looking for a center-forward but if they do sign Gordon “the pressure to sign a goalscorer would be lessened.” Barcelona’s top striker targets are Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro but both deals currently seem difficult to do as neither Atletico nor Chelsea want to sell.

Keeping Joao Cancelo must be a priority for Deco and Barcelona this summer
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 17: Joao Cancelo of FC Barcelona celebrates 3-1 during the LaLiga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona v Real Betis at the Camp Nou on May 17, 2026 in Barcelona Spain (Photo by David Ramirez/Soccrates/Getty Images) | Getty Images When Joao Cancelo came back to Barcelona earlier this year, the collective intake of breath from culers was palpable. Why would the club want to re-sign the right-back when Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo can both play there, while Hansi Flick also has Eric Garcia and Xavi Espart appeared to be the general school of thought. Despite all the doubters, Cancelo has certainly gone on to prove that he has again been worth his weight in gold. Forgetting Kounde’s injury problems just for a moment, he isn’t as dynamic as his contemporary has been, and certainly struggles to get back and defend at times. Perhaps his positional sense on occasion can be better than Cancelo’s; however, it’s the Portuguese who offers a little more in his all-round game. With Barca always reliant on full-backs that aren’t just able defensively, but who can get forward with ease and be a supplementary attacking presence when required, Cancelo absolutely fits the bill. Araujo has generally been used sparingly in the position, and almost always when up against Vini Jr. in El Clasico. Time will tell if the Uruguayan still has a squad place at the club after this summer, given his lack of minutes under Hansi Flick recently. Where Cancelo also excels is his ability to play with equal aplomb in the left-back position, as it gives the squad options when and if Alejandro Balde is injured or off form, as has happened in the recent past. At 31 years of age, the Portuguese is still as fit as a fiddle and gets up and down the pitch with ease. Though no spring chicken, it’s evident that he still has years left at the top level, and Barca would be ill-advised to allow him to leave, given the other options that they currently have at their disposal. Of course, if it’s a matter of financial prudence, that could put a slightly different spin on things, but as the club continues to pull away from the dark days under Josep Maria Bartomeu, there have to be more creative ways for the powers that be to make money from commercial deals, which would ultimately ensure that there’s no issue in keeping on some big earners. Cancelo has already made his feelings clear as to where he wants to spend the next few years of his career, so Deco and Joan Laporta need to ensure pen gets put to paper before the World Cup, where a high standard of performance from the player could alert other potential suitors.

Vinicius: “I am in no rush to extend my contract with Real Madrid”
Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior talked to CazeTV and shared some thoughts about his contract extension. Vinicius’ deal with Los Blancos expires in the summer of 2027, meaning that he will be able to negotiate with other teams next January. “I am not in a rush to renew my contract. I have a contract until 2027. So, until 2027, we have a great deal to discuss with Madrid, and Madrid has a great deal to discuss with us. Real Madrid is calm, and I am calm. The president trusts me, and I trust him. And that’s all there is to it; we just have to wait and live each day, each moment, and enjoy the best club in the world,” said Vinicius. The Brazilian attacker and Real Madrid have not reached an agreement yet, but it could happen after the upcoming FIFA World Cup. “I’ve never pictured myself away from Real Madrid. I thoroughly enjoy every moment I spend here, as it’s the club of my dreams. I always dreamed of playing here and being able to do so for such an extended period. Now, I’m one of the team captains. Despite my youth, it’s a significant occurrence that rarely happens in history. So, I savor every moment. I want to remain here my entire life, but I’m not in a rush to renew my contract,” he added. The two sides will likely resume talks after the tournament and reports on the Spanish press indicate that an agreement should be expected.

(Photo by Bruno Penas/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images) | Getty Images Marc-Andre ter Stegen has sent out a farewell message to Girona as he prepares to head back to Barcelona after a loan spell with Michel’s side. The Germany stopper moved on loan in the winter and was hoping for regular football ahead of World Cup 2026. However, he suffered a brutal injury blow after just two appearances for his new club and subsequently had to undergo surgery which saw him miss the rest of the season. Ter Stegen has now said farewell to Girona and has spoken about his brief time at the club. “Girona, thank you very much for these months,” he posted on Instagram. “Although my stint on the pitch has been much shorter than we would have liked, with only two games after my arrival in January and having to sit out for the remainder of the season, I am very grateful for how you have welcomed me from day one. “It has been an honor to be part of this family, share the locker room with this group and feel the love of the club people and amazing fans. I heartily wish you all the best for the future.” Ter Stegen’s future now is unclear as there appears to be no place for him at Barcelona for next season. The stopper was happy to move to Girona to say close to his family but a return now looks unlikely after Michel’s men were relegated from La Liga.

‘Higher level than any other Spanish striker’ – Ansu Fati’s father makes big claim after Barcelona forward misses out on World Cup squad
PARIS, FRANCE - APRIL 10: Ansu Fati of AS Monaco in action during the Ligue 1 McDonald's match between Paris FC and AS Monaco FC at Stade Jean Bouin on April 10, 2026 in Paris, France. (Photo by Franco Arland/Getty Images) | Getty Images Ansu Fati’s father has revealed his disappointment at seeing his son miss out on a place in the Spain squad for World Cup 2026. The forward has spent the season on loan at Monaco and scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side. Bori Fati feels Fati did have a chance of being called up and it’s a shame he missed out. “This season he finished the league well and was in very good shape. He finished the French league with Monaco at a higher level than any other Spanish striker. But if the national team didn’t realize that, then it’s over, there’s nothing that can be done about it,” he told EremNews. “Ansu finished the season very well. Coach Luis de la Fuente did not call him up, but he trusts other players and that’s it, there is nothing else to do. We had hoped that Ansu would go to the national team, but he didn’t call him up today and that’s where it ends. “Ansu has not been in the national team for a long time either. If Ansu had played regularly for a long time, he would have been called up to the national team, that’s obvious to him. But he wasn’t playing. And that’s it. It’s a shame, but more opportunities will come.” Fati’s future is now uncertain. There’s been talk that Monaco will trigger the buy option in his loan contract but also speculation Sevilla are keen and that the player himself is still dreaming of another chance at Barca.

Reports in Poland now claim that Deco has shown an interest in Kiwior and has made contact with Porto about a potential transfer in the summer. Barcelona had made Alessandro Bastoni their top defensive target but talk of a move for the Italy defender has now cooled, with the Catalans prioritising signing a replacement for Robert Lewandowski instead. ‘I had loser stamped on my head’: how Porto’s Francesco Farioli bounced back
Italian’s reputation was bruised at Ajax but he has turned Porto back into title winners and is one of Europe’s most sought-after coaches again After Francesco Farioli surrendered a nine-point lead in his final five matches at Ajax, he felt the word “loser” had been stamped across his forehead. Clubs that had pursued him quietly stepped back and his rise abruptly stalled. Now, after an impressive campaign at Porto, the 37-year-old is again one of Europe’s most sought-after coaches. Porto’s title triumph, wrapped up with two games to spare, came 12 months after Ajax’s collapse enabled PSV to become Dutch champions. It is a sign of Farioli’s status that he was linked with Chelsea before they appointed Xabi Alonso, raising fears among Porto supporters of an early departure. They remember what happened 15 years ago when André Villas-Boas was prised away to Stamford Bridge after winning the league. Farioli, though, insists the club and fans have nothing to worry about. VERONA, ITALY - MAY 10: Nico Paz of Como in action during the Serie A match between Hellas Verona FC and Como 1907 at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on May 10, 2026 in Verona, Italy. (Photo by Image Photo Agency/Getty Images) | Getty Images Real Madrid are moving ahead with plans to bring Nico Paz back to the Santiago Bernabéu following the midfielder’s impressive rise in Serie A. The academy graduate is expected to return to Madrid after spending the last two seasons with Italian side Como, with the club preparing to activate the buy-back clause included in his deal. Real Madrid reportedly have a two-week window, beginning this Monday, to finalize the operation. Unlike several other major decisions tied to the club’s long-term sporting project and upcoming presidential election, Nico’s return appears to be straightforward internally. There is broad support within the club for bringing him back, and Florentino Pérez is reportedly able to approve the move without waiting for the election process to conclude. From Madrid’s perspective, the deal represents a major market opportunity. Re-signing Nico would cost the club around €9 million — a figure viewed as extremely favorable considering the growing interest in him across Europe. Reports in Italy have linked Inter Milan with a potential move worth close to €60 million after his standout performances this season. Nico had been waiting to see whether Como could secure Champions League qualification before final decisions were made regarding his future. However, regardless of the outcome, his path now appears set to lead back to the Bernabéu. The Argentine midfielder is expected to be one of the first returning players integrated into Real Madrid’s plans for next season. Another anticipated return is Endrick, whose loan spell away from the club is also coming to an end. Nico’s stock has risen dramatically over the past year. After emerging as one of Serie A’s most highly rated midfielders, he is now also expected to be part of Argentina’s squad for the upcoming World Cup — another sign of just how quickly his profile has grown.

Just who is going to replace Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona?
VALENCIA, SPAIN - MAY 23: Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona celebrates after scoring their side's first goal during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona at Estadi de Mestalla on May 23, 2026 in Valencia, Spain. (Photo by Omar Arnau/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images) | Getty Images With Robert Lewandowski having played his last game for Barcelona, talk will once again turn to which player will replace him as the focal point of the Catalan club’s attack next season. The rumor mill is already claiming that Barca have €100 million to spend. Do the Blaugranes stick with a centre-forward in the target man mould, or do they look for a more diminutive No.9, who can also link up play? Perhaps they go for a player who is a mixture of both. Whoever does garner the most interest certainly has some big shoes to fill, not least because Hansi Flick will want the club to challenge for all of the major honours once more. The German coach has already made his feelings cleaar, saying: “We need to look for a 9 who fits our philosophy, but the most important thing is that he scores goals.” So who will Barca go for? The Favorite? Julian Alvarez There’s never really been any secret to Joan Laporta wanting to bring Julian Alvarez to Camp Nou, but the stumbling block will be financial. Though the club has saved on Lewy’s salary, the Argentinian World Cup winner won’t come cheap, and with other areas of the squad also needing to be strengthened, can Barca really potentially blow their whole transfer budget on Alvarez? He would be a solid addition, of course. A player who already knows the league, and who is far better suited in terms of general play to Barca than Atletico Madrid. Not just a goalscorer but a goal creator, too, the Spanish press is convinced he is Barca’s top target this summer. The Dream – Harry Kane Europe’s most feared marksman on current form, coming off the back of a 61-goal season with Bayern Munich. Harry Kane has proven beyond any doubt at all that he has what it takes to succeed at the very highest level, and in order to even tempt him to move from Bavaria, Barca would need to come up with a sensational package that would be too difficult to turn down. Given the similar playing style to Lewandowski, Flick could just do a like-for-like swap, and the gameplay remains as it has for the past few years, with everyone knowing exactly the areas that Kane patrols in order to get the best out of him. Yet it’s another deal that will be incredibly difficult to do. Kane keeps on saying he wants to stay and Bayern are in no mood to sell. The Most Realistic? Joao Pedro With no European football at all for Chelsea next season, and the West Londoners once again in disarray, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Joao Pedro moved on, even if early indications are that the Blues board believe him to be one of their ‘untouchables.’ A hybrid of both of the aforementioned strikers, his signing would certainly be an interesting one. This is a rumor that’s hotting up as well, with the latest updates claiming Deco has headed out to London again to talk about a potential transfer. Whether Chelsea would want to sell their player of the season is another question entirely, but there’s certainly merit in testing the water for the Brazilian’s services. Which striker would you prefer to see Barcelona sign to replace Lewandowski? Tell us in the comments below!

Kang’s spending fuels resentment but Barcelona are far from a model club
Billionaire investor uses her wealth to pursue glory but the Women’s Champions League winners cannot take the moral high ground It has been a bad week for Michele Kang, the billionaire women’s football investor. On Wednesday the Uefa director of women’s football, Nadine Kessler, was firm on the enforcement of rules prohibiting clubs with the same owner from playing each other in European competitions, dealing a blow to Kang, who has ambitions of taking London City Lionesses into Europe’s premier competition, but also owns the tournament’s most decorated side, OL Lyonnes. Then, across the weekend, Kang teams suffered two continental final defeats, with Lyonnes losing 4-0 to Barcelona in the Champions League final before her US outfit, Washington Spirit, fell short in the Concacaf W Champions Cup with a 5-3 reverse to the Mexican side Club América. Barcelona plan to spend €100m on a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski
(Photo by Pedro Salado/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona’s hunt for a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski is gaining ground following the end of the season in Spain. A new update from AS states that Barca see signing a new No. 9 as the “absolutely priority” for the summer transfer window and are hopeful they can spend big. Lewandowski’s exit has freed up space on the wage bill and Barca are hoping to be able to return to the 1:1 rule in time for the summer window. The report adds that Barca now plan to “spend slightly more than 100 million euros on reinforcements” and “have decided that the bulk of the investment will be for the number 9 position.” Barca had been going for a defender as well but have cooled interest in Alessandro Bastoni and may not now bolster their backline due to the emergence of Gerard Martin and Andreas Christensen’s return to fitness. Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro are currently the top two targets, although current speculation claims that Atletico want €150 million for the Argentina star.

Real Madrid shut out of Spain’s World Cup squad as Huijsen misses the cut
Dean Huijsen of Spain controls the ball during the international friendly match between Spain and Egypt prior to the FIFA World Cup, at RCD Stadium in Barcelona, Spain, on March 31, 2026. (Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images For the first time in history, Spain will head to a World Cup without a single Real Madrid player in the squad. It is a stunning development for both club and country — one that once seemed unthinkable given Madrid’s historic influence on La Roja. But Luis de la Fuente’s final 26-man selection has confirmed what had been increasingly feared in Valdebebas over the past weeks: Real Madrid will have no representation at the tournament. Dean Huijsen, viewed as the club’s final realistic hope of inclusion, was ultimately left out of the squad. The young center-back had emerged as the only viable Madrid-linked option after Dani Carvajal’s long-term knee injury effectively ruled him out of contention months ago, while Alvaro Carreras’s form and playing time dipped significantly in the past couple months. Carvajal, who suffered his injury in October 2024, did not even make Spain’s preliminary 55-man list due to ongoing concerns surrounding his recovery. That left Huijsen carrying the hopes of avoiding an unprecedented moment in Spanish football history. Instead, De la Fuente opted for other defensive profiles, closing the door on Madrid’s presence entirely. Fran García and Gonzalo García had only been considered emergency alternatives rather than serious candidates for the final list. The omission is historically significant. Across Spain’s 16 previous World Cup appearances, Real Madrid had always supplied at least one player to the national team. The only remotely comparable case came before the modern World Cup era itself — at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, where Spain won silver without Madrid representation. This latest squad selection further highlights the changing balance of power within Spain’s national setup. Barcelona once again lead the way in representation and now remain the only club to have contributed players to every Spanish World Cup squad in history. Even in years of reduced influence, Barça still maintained a minimum presence; their lowest total came in 1934, 2002, and 2006, when three players were selected. The complete squad is as follows: Goalkeepers: Unai Simón, David Raya, Joan García. Defenders: Pedro Porro, Marcos Llorente, Aymeric Laporte, Pau Cubarsí, Marc Pubill, Eric García, Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo. Midfielders: Rodri, Martín Zubimendi, Pedri, Mikel Merino, Fabián Ruiz, Dani Olmo, Gavi. Forwards: Nico Williams, Álex Baena, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres, Borja Iglesias, Yeremy Pino, Lamine Yamal, Víctor Muñoz.

Lamine Yamal the leader, winning La Liga in El Clasico and the best moments of Barcelona’s 2025-2026 title winning season

(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Once again, Barcelona are La Liga champions under Hansi Flick. It’s officially an era to remember. The exciting thing is to imagine that it’s just getting started after the manager signed a new two-year contract to extend his time at the Camp Nou. There were unforgettable moments, such as the winning the league at home against Real Madrid, thrashing Newcastle 7-2 in the Champions League, and the opening of the renovated stadium, to great success as Barcelona were unbeatable at home. There were unforgettable goals from Lamine Yamal, Marcus Rashford, Fermín López, and others. What I’m reflecting on today, however, are the things that contributed to the title winning success of Hansi Flick and his team this season, and that have also built the foundation for sustained success heading into the future. The Barca debut of Joan Garcia The biggest storyline of last summer was the decision to bring in Joan Garcia after a breakthrough season at Espanyol. The writing was starting to emerge on the wall that Marc-André ter Stegen’s time as Barca’s number one was coming to an end after a string of injuries, and doubts starting to circulate as to whether he was still a world class option. Deco didn’t hesitate to sign Garcia. The opportunity was too good to walk away from. Bringing him in was a sign that Barcelona were evolving. As a goalkeeper, Garcia had developed a reputation for incredible shot stopping, but it wasn’t clear how good he was with his feet, something that has become an expectation for all Barca players, goalies included. From the beginning, Garcia inspired confidence, won over the fanbase and team-mates alike, and never looked back. The one hicccup was a howler against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey that may have been the most approximate cause of Barca’s elimination. That being said, you could just as well have blamed the poor condition of the pitch for the blunder. Garcia became Barcelona’s anchor, and he is likely to be the main man between the sticks for many years to come. Lamine Yamal maturing into a leader Another unfortunate story to grab the headlines a year ago was the off-field escapades of Lamine Yamal and his infamous 18th birthday party. Many, myself included, began to wonder, perhaps unfairly, whether we had a Ronaldinho or a Lionel Messi on our hands in terms of longevity and ability to live up to expectations. Having barely lost to Ousmane Dembele in the Ballon d’Or added more intrigue to the debate. Could Lamine take his game to the next level? Without a doubt, we saw an upgraded version of the football’s next and current global superstar. It’s not just the stats, although he did take a step forward in this department with 22 goals and 14 assists across La Liga and the Champions League. It was the way he carried the team on his back in the biggest moments, even at times in losing knockout efforts. What we learned is that Lamine is more than just the magic in his boots. He is a competitor and he understands what winning means as the face of Barcelona. Hansi Flick’s tactics continuing to dominate Spain How fortunate Barcelona is to have Hansi Flick. He is imperfect, but he is a damn good coach who has accomplished so much with so little. Real Madrid brought in Xabi Alonso, a signal that they were ready to give Flick a challenge in his second year in charge give the reputation that the Spaniard built at Leverkusen for his tactics and leadership ability. By the midway point of the season, Alonso was sacked after losing the Supercopa to Flick, and Real Madrid officially entered meltdown mode. Flick and Barcelona were cool as a cucumber in La Liga, even more consistent and dominant than in year one. If you remove the last three throw away games, they were both the best offensive and defensive team in Spain. They also, with a little bit more at stake at the end, could have and likely would have gotten to 100 points. The Champions League is another question next season. I’m beginning to think, however, the problem isn’t the tactics, but the lack of backing to give Flick the depth he needs to be in the best position for success. Some pragmatism in certain moments wouldn’t hurt, but the biggest factor will be whether Joan Laporta can get Flick a new forward, and at least one new defender to put Barcelona over the top. All in all, it’s amazing to see Flick in the process of building a potential Barcelona dynasty in Spain. Three titles in a row would put him in the same company as Pep Guardiola. It’s even more impressive though when you consider what he’s working with. How about you guys? What were your favorite things about Barcelona this season. Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Enrique Riquelme Announces Real Madrid Presidential Bid, Calls for “Democracy, Transparency, and a New Cycle”
MADRID, SPAIN - MAY 23: Enrique Riquelme, Chairman of Cox Energy, speaks to the media outside the stadium as he advertises his candidacy for President of Real Madrid in the upcoming election prior to the LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid CF and Athletic Club at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on May 23, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) | Getty Images Enrique Riquelme officially announced on Thursday that he is running for the presidency of Real Madrid, positioning himself as the first serious challenger to Florentino Pérez in decades. In a wide-ranging interview with MARCA, Riquelme outlined a campaign centered on governance reform, democratization of the club, modernization of its sporting structure, and renewed emphasis on the role of club members. Riquelme framed his candidacy not as a personal battle against Pérez, but as what he believes is a necessary new cycle for the club after more than 20 years under the current leadership. “Florentino Pérez is the best president in Real Madrid’s history,” Riquelme told MARCA. “But cycles also come to an end. We’re not here to compete with a person, we’re here to propose a different plan.” The businessman described the decision to run as the culmination of years of reflection behind the scenes. According to Riquelme, conversations about how to help Real Madrid date back more than a decade, but intensified after 2021. He said he ultimately felt a “moral and ethical obligation” to step forward and offer members an alternative. A major pillar of his platform is opposition to any potential privatization of Real Madrid. Riquelme repeatedly emphasized that concern over the club’s future ownership structure helped unite the people behind his campaign. “What united a significant group of members is the fear of privatizing the club,” he said. “We want a Real Madrid that will continue to belong to its members for more than 120 years.” He also criticized what he perceives as a lack of democracy within the current institutional structure, pointing to the fact that Real Madrid has gone two decades without contested presidential elections. Riquelme argued that the current system makes it extraordinarily difficult for challengers to emerge and promised reforms centered on transparency and member involvement. Much of the interview focused on the relationship between the club and its socios. Riquelme claimed that many members no longer feel genuinely connected to Real Madrid beyond symbolic gestures and merchandise discounts. He specifically pointed to ticketing frustrations, relocation of season-ticket holders, and the difficulty ordinary members face when trying to attend away matches or access ticket allocations. According to Riquelme, these issues reflect a broader disconnect between the institution and its supporters. “Being a Real Madrid member means getting Christmas and birthday greetings and a 15% discount on jerseys,” he said. “That can’t be.” On the sporting side, Riquelme confirmed that his project includes major names and structural reforms, though he stopped short of revealing specifics. He stressed that Real Madrid needs a professional sporting director and a clearer long-term sporting identity. He also highlighted concerns over the academy pipeline, contrasting Madrid’s recent youth production with clubs like Barcelona. “Real Madrid has to have a sporting director,” he said. “It can’t be that there’s a lack of players coming through the academy while other clubs in Spain fill their national teams with players from their youth systems.” Riquelme added that his vision is not built around short-term transfer splashes to win elections, but rather around constructing a sustainable sporting model capable of competing immediately while also planning for the future. Another recurring theme was the club’s image and institutional relationships. Riquelme argued that Madrid has become increasingly isolated and suggested the club should seek respect rather than fear from the football world. “We need them to respect us again, not fear us,” he said. He also addressed Real Madrid Femenino and the basketball division, insisting that if the club chooses to compete in those areas, it must aim to be the best rather than merely participate. Financially, Riquelme acknowledged the enormous barrier to entry involved in running for Real Madrid president, particularly due to the guarantee requirements tied to the club’s budget. He revealed that he personally assumed 100% of the financial guarantee for the candidacy using his own assets. The businessman, who said he oversees a company with nearly 14,000 employees across 37 countries, framed the campaign as a major professional and personal sacrifice shared by the people involved in his project. He also criticized the current state of Real Madrid Television, arguing that the channel should evolve beyond what he described as a partisan outlet and instead become a profitable global content platform capable of attracting and entertaining supporters worldwide. Throughout the interview, Riquelme consistently balanced criticism of the club’s current direction with praise for Pérez’s legacy. He repeatedly credited the current president for transforming Real Madrid into the biggest sporting brand in the world, while simultaneously arguing that the club now requires structural renewal. Ultimately, Riquelme presented his candidacy as a long-term institutional project rather than a campaign focused solely on immediate sporting success. “Real Madrid needs a solid foundation in terms of governance, transparency, and democracy,” he said. “If what we want is to create a Real Madrid that lasts another 100 years, we have to change that foundation.”

Where does Robert Lewandowski rank on the list of Barcelona’s greatest strikers?
Photo by Omar Arnau/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona career officially ended on Saturday’s La Liga finale against Valencia, and the Polish superstar scored one last time to finish his tenure with 120 goals as the leader of Barça’s frontline. Lewandowski only needed four years to become a legend of the club, winning three La Liga titles, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey and helping lead Barça back to the top of Europe. The Pole came to the club at a time when it wasn’t easy to be a Blaugrana and took the challenge head on, and he leaves as an icon who gave the Catalan capital a taste of his brilliance as one of the very best strikers of the 21st century — and the history of the sport. It will be very hard to find a capable replacement in the upcoming summer transfer window, and Lewy’s name will forever be associated with the great number nines in Barça history such as Gary Lineker, Romário, Ronaldo, Patrick Kluivert, Samuel Eto’o, Luis Suárez and others. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Where does Robert Lewandowski rank on the list of Barcelona’s greatest strikers? Now it’s over to you! ‘Barcelona don’t have any money’ – Bayern chief not worried about fresh Harry Kane transfer talk
Berlin, Germany - May 23: Harry Kane of FC Bayern Muenchen celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the DFB Cup Final 2026 match between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart at Olympiastadion on May 23, 2026 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images) | DeFodi Images via Getty Images Bayern Munich chief Uli Hoeness has aimed a dig at Barcelona following fresh talk about interest in striker Harry Kane ahead of the transfer window. The England international is still yet to extend his contract with the Bavarian giants, leading to more rumors recently that Barcelona could go for the 32-year-old. Hoeness addressed the speculation on Saturday after seeing Kane score a hat-trick in the final of the DFB-Pokal. “Harry Kane is the best transfer we’ve ever made,” he told German broadcaster Das Erste. “FC Bayern is a buying club not a selling club, and Barcelona have no money anyway.” The Bayern striker was also asked about his future after the match but still didn’t want to talk about a new contract. “It’s not the time to talk about that now, but there’s no panic,’ he said. ”We wanted to hold conversations until the end of the season and we’ve got a World Cup still to play. But everyone knows how much I enjoy it here. That situation is calm.“ Kane’s goals helped Bayern secure a league and cup double this season and mean he’s finishes the season with 61 goals in 51 games for the Bavarians.

Fede Valverde: Club’s First Uruguayan Captain

(Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images On his way out, Dani Carvajal handed the captain’s armband to Fede Valverde in a moment of symbolism. Real Madrid’s captaincy is decided by seniority at the club. Four players are designated as captains in order of their seniority. The order next season, barring any surprising turn of events in the transfer window, will start with Fede Valverde. The 27-year-old midfielder has played 372 games for Real Madrid. He has been under heavy scrutiny since his altercation with Aurélien Tchouaméni. Having served a two-week hiatus, he was called up by Álvaro Arbeloa for the last game of the season. It is important to recognize that Valverde is not the first Uruguayan to simply captain Real Madrid. Club legend José Santamaría played 337 games between 1957 and 1966 and wore the armband on many occasions. However, Fede Valverde is the first Uruguayan to become the designated first captain of the club with the seniority rule in full effect.

‘I want everyone 100% focused’ – Hansi Flick sends warning to Barcelona stars ahead of 2026-27 season
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 10: Hansi Flick, Head Coach of FC Barcelona, acknowledges the fans during the LaLiga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF at Spotify Camp Nou on May 10, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) Hansi Flick has warned his Barcelona players he wants “100% commitment from everyone” for the 2026-27 season. Barcelona signed off the current campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Valencia and Flick admitted his team had been pre-occupied by the upcoming World Cup. However, the German coach warned that when the competition is over, and the players return to their clubs, he wants maximum effort from everyone. “The World Cup is a big event and the players are focused, but next season will be tougher and I want everyone 100% focused,” he told reporters. “Now we can go to the World Cup or go on vacation and rest, but what counts is Barça and when we return we will continue our journey and I want 100% commitment from everyone. “I am prepared, I have that hunger, I want the players with that commitment, that everyone, players and staff, can give their best for this badge.” Flick has already committed his future to the club, signing a new two-year contract, and will be aiming for a third straight title next season with Barca.

Three talking points from Valencia vs Barcelona as Robert Lewandowski says goodbye with a goal
VALENCIA, SPAIN - MAY 23: Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona reacts during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona at Estadi de Mestalla on May 23, 2026 in Valencia, Spain. (Photo by Aitor Alcalde/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barca fizzle out in final game Barcelona’s final game of the 2025-26 season ended in disappointment as Valencia came from a goal down to win 3-1 and hand Hansi Flick’s side a sixth league defeat of the season. Unlike their opponents, the Catalans had nothing to play for and it showed. Flick was without Raphinha and Lamine Yamal due to illness and injury and also chose to rest key players such as Pedri, Joan Garcia and Pau Cubarsi which goes quite a long way to explaining Barca’s lack of intensity. Hansi Flick did use the game to hand Ronald Araujo a start, although he was replaced at half-time by Xavi Espart after appearing to take a knock. Unfortunately it was a tough game for the young right-back, the hope will be he can learn plenty from his outing. Marc Casado was also given some minutes late on ahead of a big summer for the midfielder. The midfielder is said to be heading for talks with the club about his future after slipping down the pecking order this season. Barcelona still end the season eight points clear of nearest challengers Real Madrid and with a vastly superior goal difference. As Flick admitted afterwards, the real work is about to start as Barca being planning for the next campaign in earnest. “I’m pleased with the team’s level throughout the season,” he told reporters afterwards. “Now everyone wants to play in the World Cup, it’s normal for their heads to be elsewhere. This match suits me well to start analyzing things.” Lewandowski signs off with a goal The best thing about Saturday’s match was undoubtedly the sight of Robert Lewandowski signing off his time at Barcelona in traditional Lewandowski-style – with a goal. The striker went close in the first half when he hit the post with a header but had been having a quiet game until the hour mark when he broke the deadlock. The veteran had Ferran Torres to thank for an inadvertent assist. The Spain star fired goalwards and could only watch as Lewandowski managed to divert the ball past goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski at the far post. It probably wasn’t a surprise to see Lewandowski score against Valencia, as he’s made a real habit of netting against Los Che, bagging 10 goals in seven games against them. They’ll certainly be glad to see the back of him. The goal was number 120 in 193 appearances for Lewandowski in Barcelona colors, his 14th in La Liga this season and the perfect way for Lewy to sign off a brilliant four years with the club. Christensen returns to action for Barca Andreas Christensen made his first appearance since December for Barcelona at Mestalla in a week where it’s been reported he’s agreed a new two-year deal with the club. The Dane has returned from a serious knee injury and is reportedly eager to show what he can do in pre-season and earn a place in the first team for the 2026-27 campaign. Christensen looked understandably rusty in his second-half cameo. A poor pass from Xavi Espart left him stranded for the equaliser and he looked very much like a player lacking match rhythm during his time on the pitch. The 30-year-old will now get the summer off, as Denmark failed to qualify for the World Cup, before heading back to Barcelona to try and revive his career. The big question will be whether Christensen can finally stay fit. With talk continuing that Barca want to sign a center-back, and Gerard Martin and Eric Garcia having both shone in the backline this season, he also faces his work cut out getting back into the team.

Alvaro Arbeloa cancels his final press conference as Real Madrid coach
MADRID, SPAIN - MAY 23: Alvaro Arbeloa, Head Coach of Real Madrid, looks on prior to the LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid CF and Athletic Club at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on May 23, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) | Getty Images Alvaro Arbeloa cancelled his final post-match press conference as the head coach of Real Madrid after their 4-2 win over Athletic Club on Saturday. Arbeloa did not speak to the crowd the way Carlo Ancelotti did last season, and had already talked about how he felt being the coach of the team in the pre-game press conference on Friday morning. In that conference, Arbeloa said: “I hope it’s just a ‘see you soon.’ I’ve always considered Madrid my home. I’ve been with Madrid for 20 years; it’s my home. It’s my last game this season; I don’t know if it’s the last of my life as Madrid’s coach—we never know. I’ll try to enjoy it. “I know what the team was like when I arrived. What I’ve had to deal with. If I’d started from the beginning, it would have been different. But that’s what I had to work with, and I tried to do it the best way possible. Not my way, but the best way. We’ve done a lot of things right; I’m happy with what we’ve done.” Seeing the club’s farewell for David Alaba and Dani Carvajal, the coach must have decided that there is no point in having a press conference after the match.

Dani Carvajal: “Real Madrid is my life”
MADRID, SPAIN - MAY 23: Daniel Carvajal of Real Madrid is throwing up in the air by his teammates wearing all a shirt with his name on after his final match played for Real Madrid during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Real Madrid v Athletic de Bilbao at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on May 23, 2026 in Madrid Spain (Photo by M Gracia Jimenez/Soccrates/Getty Images) | Getty Images Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal spoke to RMTV and then to the Bernabeu after playing the last match of his illustrious time at the club. He was asked about what the club means to him, to which he said: “It’s not just that it’s the club of my life, it is my life. I was born a Real Madrid fan, I’ve been here for 23 years, I’ve played in every division, I’ve won everything there is to win, I’ve even been captain… I couldn’t ask for more. I’m leaving very happy and fulfilled.” Carvajal on his time at Real Madrid “If someone had told me as a child that I would have this career, I wouldn’t have imagined it. It’s been wonderful, spectacular from the first day to the last. Triumphs, difficult moments that helped me mature, sharing a dressing room with wonderful people… It’s the best club in the world. I always tried to be kind to everyone, even with my frustrations if I lost possession or misplaced a pass. But I hope everyone leaves with good memories of Dani Carvajal. We’ll see each other in the future.” Carvajal on how he feels “It’s very difficult to describe. You get emotional without knowing why. Yesterday, seeing the training ground, today seeing the banner they made for me, the ovations… How could I not be emotional? I’m closing a wonderful chapter, an unforgettable career. I only have words of gratitude for the club and the fans. Thank you, I’ve enjoyed it like a child, from the first day to the last, and I hope the feeling is mutual. I hope to be able to return to what is my home, in a different way, but helping out as always.” Carvajal on the golden era and Florentino Perez “Good evening, Madrid fans. It’s not an easy moment for me to speak because I’m very emotional about this grand farewell. First, I want to thank our president, Don Florentino. He’s the one who brought me back from Germany, and we’ve won many Champions Leagues together, but if I have to highlight one thing, it’s that not even 24 hours after my knee injury, he didn’t hesitate to renew my contract. Then I wanted to thank my teammates. We haven’t had two easy seasons, but I’m sure we’ll win again. This is Real Madrid, and we have to rise again, as our history tells us. I can’t help but remember the golden era. I can’t help but remember this golden era we’ve lived through. We’re bringing a wonderful era to a close: four Champions Leagues in five years, that tenth, three in a row, Cristiano, Ramos, Ancelotti, Zidane… Countless names that have carried this badge to new heights. They made us great and took us to the very top.” Carvajal to his family “I want to continue thanking my parents and my brother for making such a huge effort when I was a child. You have always been there, thank you. Also to my wife, my children… I have lived through two very difficult years, the bitter side of this sport, and you have filled my days with light. I love you all very much.” Carvajal to the fans “Finally, thank you all, you are wonderful. From the first day to the last, you carried me on your shoulders. Seeing this farewell makes me incredibly proud to be a Madridista. Thank you for the Madridista comebacks, for being there in the good times and the bad. Some careers are defined by success, and I only want you to remember me with pride and with the certainty that I gave everything for this shirt. Yesterday, today, and always, Hala Madrid!”

‘We don’t want to take any risks’ – Hansi Flick explains why he left Raphinha out of Barcelona’s last game of the season against Valencia
(Photo by Josep LAGO / AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty Images Hansi Flick explained why he has left Raphinha out of his squad for Barcelona’s last game of the season on Saturday night against Valencia at Mestalla. The Brazilian is back from injury but has been given the night off as he was not feeling 100 per cent, according to the Barca boss. “Raphinha was feeling a bit off yesterday, so we’ve decided to have him stay at home. We don’t want to take any risks,” he said before kick-off. Flick has gone with Ferran Torres, Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski in attack and is hoping his team can sign off with a win. “For me, it’s always important when we train, when we play, so we have to stay focused. We have 31 wins, but 32 is a better number,” he added. Barcelona have obviously already sealed the title but will want to finish on a high before the majority of the players switch their focus to a busy summer of World Cup action.

What grade do you give Barcelona’s season and have we progressed or regressed as a team?
Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images Another successful season for Barcelona is coming to an end with two more titles and a whole lot of goals and entertainment from Hansi Flick’s side in 2025-26. Barça defended the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup crown and clinch both titles with wins against Real Madrid which is always very, very sweet. The Catalans also made it to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and almost pulled off a miracle comeback against Atlético Madrid, but the major disappointment of the season was the quarter-final exit in the Champions League against the same Atlético side, even though the Catalans came very close and certainly have quite a few refereeing decisions to comlain about. The Blaugrana won a domestic Treble and made it to the European semi-finals in Flick’s first season, but this campaign saw the rise of Lamine Yamal into true best player in the world status, Gerard Martín having a fantastic year as a center-back and perhaps becoming a defensive stalwart for the near future, and Joan Garcia becoming perhaps the best bargain signing in recent club history and already in the conversation for best goalkeeper on Earth. Even if the trophy cabinet isn’t as full as last season and the Champions League campaign was definitely disappointing, there certainly are several reasons why this was a great year for Barça that sets them up for a bright future. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: What grade do you give Barcelona’s season and have we progressed or regressed as a team? Now it’s over to you! Marc Casadó set for crunch meeting to decide Barcelona future
Photo By Ricardo Larreina/Europa Press via Getty Images A decisive meeting has been scheduled between Marc Casadó’s representatives and FC Barcelona, right after the final match of La Liga this season against Valencia at Mestalla. Staying at the Camp Nou reportedly remains the priority for the 22-year-old academy graduate, but he is now reportedly seriously considering a departure to secure consistent playing time. Casadó has fallen behind Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Marc Bernal in the pecking order, and he may be reluctant to accept another year as a fringe player. Despite this, the midfielder has stated multiple times over the season that he wishes to stay. “Whenever there is a possibility to wear this shirt and this badge, it will be my priority,” Casadó told Esport3 in January. And speaking to La Vanguardia, he echoed that sentiment: “my dream has always been to play for Barça and I have achieved it. Now I want it to continue to be this way. I will leave my life in every training session, in every match, and in every situation to continue as a blaugrana.” His public stance is clear, but the rumors persist. Casadó is under contract until 2028, meaning there is no immediate pressure from his side to rush into a decision. But offers from prominent European clubs have started to arrive. There have also been rumors of interest from Saudi Arabia. Barcelona reportedly are willing to sell if the midfielder forces a move, but they are not necessarily rushing to let him go, either. Unlike previous summers where financial troubles dictated sales, the Catalans are not under immediate pressure to unload his contract, which is relatively low. Estimates place Casadó’s market value between 20 and 30 million euros. His sale would represent “pure profit” as he was not bought with a transfer fee, being an academy product. Even though Barcelona may not be in a mad rush to sell players, they still need to generate revenue to fund Hansi Flick’s desired reinforcements – a striker, a full-back, and a central defender. Thus, Casadó’s performances this season compared to his breakout campaign may make him a prime candidate for a transfer. With Gavi fully recovered and Bernal seeing increased minutes under Flick, there may be few opportunities for Casadó if he stays.

Flick was quizzed on Ferran’s future ahead of Barca’s final game of the season and offered up the following update. “We haven’t talked about his future. He has one year left, there’s time,” he told reporters on Friday. “We’ll talk about it later. What I see is that he’s done a great job in recent weeks, which is what I expect from him, and his attitude has been positive. His performance has been good.” Torres has 21 goals in all competitions for Barcelona this season which is a great return, although he did go over three months without finding the back of the net at the start of this year.

(Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona have reportedly reached agreement with defender Andreas Christensen on a new two-year contract with the club. According to Mundo Deportivo, Christensen has accepted Barca’s new offer which will see him take a pay cut on his current salary. The Dane’s existing deal was due to expire at the end of the current season. Christensen is said to have had other offers from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia but only wanted to stay at Barcelona, while Hansi Flick reportedly still has plenty of faith in the Dane. The defender’s time at Barcelona has been disrupted by injury and he hasn’t played since December due to a serious knee injury. Christensen is now fit again and will be hoping he can stay injury-free going forward. He is said to be determined to show what he do in pre-season and “wants to repay the faith” shown in him before Flick and Barcelona. Are Barcelona right to extend Christensen’s contract? He spoke about his future earlier this year while he was still working on his coaching badges. “My idea is to start coaching soon. ‘He could be an option’ – Hansi Flick offers Hamza Abdelkarim hope of first team chance at Barcelona
Photo By Javier Borrego/Europa Press via Getty Images Hamza Abdelkarim has had a good week. The 18-year-old striker has been named in the Egypt squad for the World Cup, and his club boss also had some good news for him today. Abdelkarim has scored five goals in seven league matches and has impressed for the under-19s after arriving at Barça a few months ago after a long and frustrating transfer process, and he’s close to securing a permanent move to the club this summer. Hansi Flick was asked about Hamza in a press conference on Friday and said he “could be an option” for the preseason, as the coach will bring some young La Masia talents for the summer tour. “We have to wait. We’re planning the preseason and I’m keeping an eye on it, eager to see new faces. When I started in 2024 it was incredible to see the quality at La Masia, and that’s still happening this season. When we return, he could be an option.“ This specific preseason could be very important for youngsters such as Abdelkarim as several senior Barça stars won’t be involved due to their participation in the World Cup which will grant them extra time off during the time in which Barça will begin their preparations for the new season, so we’ll see many La Masia talents getting real minutes in preseason.

Álvaro Arbeloa: “I’m leaving, but I hope this is a ‘see you soon’, not a ‘goodbye’”
VALDEBEBAS, SPAIN - MAY 16: Alvaro Arbeloa, head coach of Real Madrid, attends his press conference during the training day of Real Madrid ahead the Spanish League, LaLiga EA Sports, football match against Sevilla FC at Ciudad Deportiva Real Madrid on May 16, 2026, in Madrid, Spain. (Photo By Dennis Agyeman/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa confirmed that he would be leaving the club after the last game of the La Liga season against Athletic Club, going on to say that, “I hope it’s just a ‘see you soon.’ I’ve always considered Madrid my home. I’ve been with Madrid for 20 years; it’s my home. It’s my last game this season; I don’t know if it’s the last of my life as Madrid’s coach—we never know. I’ll try to enjoy it. And I’m focused on winning.” Arbeloa on Athletic Club “I want to see a great game, say goodbye to the fans, and give them a victory. It’s a huge effort; playing the last home game is special. I want to give the Bernabéu a treat.” Arbeloa on Joan Laporta’s words on Real Madrid and referees “I don’t give much weight to Laporta’s words; we’ve always been very clear about what we’ve said. He’s probably referring to the Negreira Case… We’re still waiting for a resolution to such a serious case that has tarnished Spanish football. Many referees from that era are still around; we still have the same feeling. These aren’t normal things. We have to keep speaking out against it. A Madrid player is bleeding, and that referee gets the honor of officiating the Copa del Rey final.” Arbeloa on his future “I’m not here to talk about possibilities. Mou has a fantastic coaching staff; he’s surrounded by great people. If he comes, he’ll bring his own team, as he should. There’s no chance I’ll be joining him. I’ve spent the last four months thinking about Madrid; from now on, it’s time to think about myself. I’ve taken the leap, and I feel ready for new challenges.” Arbeloa on Dani Carvajal “He’s a symbol of what a Madrid player should be. He laid the first stone at Valdebebas; he’s special, one of a kind. It’ll be a beautiful day for everyone—paying him tribute. He’ll start the game, and I’m sure that when he’s substituted for the tribute, everyone will stand up. When he looks back, he’ll be very proud of what he’s done. We Madridistas have been very lucky.” Arbeloa on Vinícius’ absence “He has been granted leave by the club for a personal matter; we don’t know if he’ll be able to be here tomorrow.” Arbeloa on the best full-backs in Real Madrid’s history “I’d definitely put Carvajal at the top. Dani has been able to dominate in both aspects—going forward and defending. He’s a natural competitor; he’s faced the best.” Arbeloa on his relationship with the players “I’m very grateful to them for what we’ve been through. I’m aware that with 25 different people you can’t have the same relationship. We’ve had our differences; that’s normal. We’ve resolved them in the best way possible. We’ve shown each other respect; the opportunity came when it came. For me, what’s always important is how you handle it, whatever happens to you. And I’ve handled it the best way possible, thinking about Madrid. I’ve thought more about Madrid than about myself these past few months, but I’ve done what’s best for the club. At another club it would have been different, but this was what I had to do. There’s no room for regret.” Arbeloa on his legacy “I know what the team was like when I arrived. What I’ve had to deal with. If I’d started from the beginning, it would have been different. But that’s what I had to work with, and I tried to do it the best way possible. Not my way, but the best way. We’ve done a lot of things right; I’m happy with what we’ve done.” Arbeloa on the locker room “I’m leaving with a great relationship with almost everyone.” Arbeloa on elections “There are some things I can’t get involved in. I think it’s great that they’re running; they know where the bar is set. We’ll be listening and seeing what ideas they can bring to the table.” Arbeloa on whether the club decided his future “I’ve done what I believed in, not because I was forced to.” Arbeloa on conversations with the players “Almost all of them have helped me grow as a coach and as a person. I’ve had a relationship with everyone, I’ve had conversations; sometimes we’ve agreed, other times we haven’t. I’m lucky that I’ve been where they are; I’ve been through those situations, I understand them. Often, their perspective is different from that of a coach. It’s easier for me to put myself in their shoes than it is for them to put themselves in mine. I’m leaving with a great deal of gratitude; they’ve made me better, they’ve made me enjoy every day. I’m very grateful to the club for the opportunity; I’m leaving with gratitude after these eight years, leaving behind many friends. Hopefully one day I can return.”

Bernardo Silva to turn down Barcelona, Juventus in favor of Atlético Madrid move
Photo by Visionhaus/Getty Images Bernardo Silva has sent a clear message to FC Barcelona: he is not going to wait around forever. This, despite that Hansi Flick reportedly views the Manchester City playmaker as an ideal addition to bolster the midfield and provide necessary rest for Pedri. But the club’s lack of immediate budget flexibility is threatening to derail the operation entirely. The fear in the offices right now is a repeat of the Julián Álvarez situation. A Manchester City star suddenly became available, Barcelona could not react quickly enough, and he ended up joining Atlético de Madrid. Could history repeat itself? According to rumors, the Portuguese international has made it known that he will not stall his future indefinitely for the blaugrana. With his contract in England expiring, the 31-year-old views this upcoming move as the final major contract of his elite career. Barcelona long believed they held the upper hand because the midfielder wanted to wear the blue and claret shirt. That advantage may not actually exist – at least, not anymore. His priorities have reportedly shifted toward joining a stable project that can guarantee his immediate registration without delays. The hesitation from Camp Nou allowed Atlético de Madrid to enter the race, and reports from Italy suggest Diego Simeone’s side has completely overtaken the competition. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Silva has already decided to join Atlético, turning down Juventus, Barcelona, and any other suitors. The Madrid club has presented a highly ambitious project where Silva would take on a leading role, specifically stepping in to replace Antoine Griezmann, who is set to depart for Orlando City in MLS. Atlético’s aggressive pursuit has effectively shattered the hopes of Juventus, who faced a harsh reality check following their recent slide to sixth place in Serie A. With one match left, Juventus’s chances of reaching the UEFA Champions League after a poor performance against Fiorentina are slim. In turn, that may have ruined any chance for the transfer. The report says Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti had personally called the midfielder, but the club simply cannot match the financial demands presented by Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, without Europe’s top club competition. Chelsea and AC Milan are also keeping tabs on the situation, but Atléti is currently in pole position. They have been tracking the Portuguese midfielder since his early days at Benfica and Monaco, and they are now the most likely club to land him.

Roony Bardghji fires back at “nonsense” rumors after being left out of Sweden’s World Cup 2026 squad
Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images Roony Bardghji is not going through an easy period. After a challenging end to the season with Barcelona where regular minutes were hard to come by, the 20-year-old winger received a massive psychological blow when Sweden manager Graham Potter left him off the 26-man roster for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that Bardghji was excluded due to an incident during the team’s qualification celebrations after defeating Poland. According to their report, Bardghji was visibly upset and complaining about his lack of playing time under Potter. Potter later tried to downplay the drama in public, claiming he noticed nothing unusual during the party because he was too busy celebrating. He said that it was a simple matter of other players being currently ahead of Bardghji in the pecking order. Now, Bardghji has decided to share his side of the story in an interview with Expressen, one of Sweden’s top newspaper, forcefully denying any locker-room misconduct. “I decided to not make comments about the fact I was not selected for the World Cup, as I understood that it was the manager’s decision. I have always respected the decisions of my coaches, whether I agreed or not,” Bardghji said. However, the nature of the rumors pushed him to speak out. “I understood that I had to speak because the rumors spread in that article had no foundation. I was very happy and proud that we qualified for the World Cup, despite the fact I did not participate on the pitch. I still feel that I form part of the team. All those rumors that have been said of me are nonsense.” The winger also emphasized his commitment to both his country and his club, adding, “Contrary to what was said, I enjoyed the dinner after the match very much. We celebrated it with my teammates, the way I did it after winning the league with Barcelona last week.” Bardghji might be celebrating Barca’s recent La Liga title, but his club future is a massive question mark. Coach Hansi Flick has used him sparingly all year. Bardghji averaged just 16 minutes per appearance this season, managing two goals and four assists in 27 games. Back in March, the player openly voiced his frustration to the press, stating, “I have patience, but I sincerely believe that I deserved to play more. I am not 100% happy.” Opportunities were supposed to open up for the Swede when Lamine Yamal suffered an injury against Celta de Vigo, ruling the Spanish phenom out for the final stretch of the season. But Bardghji didn’t really show much in those final two games. There are some reports that he may be looking for an opportunity to play more elsewhere. However, according to the rumor mill, Barcelona leadership and, in particular, Deco, has no intention of selling the young winger. But rumors persist about a potential move – perhaps on a loan or transfer with a buyback option.
