Keep, sell or loan: What should Barcelona do with Hector Fort?
Hector Fort of Elche CF celebrates a goal during the La Liga EA Sports match between Real Betis and Elche CF at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, Spain, on May 12, 2026. (Photo by Jose Luis Contreras/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Hector Fort is back at Barcelona after a season on loan at Elche and is determined to fight for a place in the squad for the 2026-27 season. The defender says he’s “learned and improved” from his time away from Barcelona after a campaign where he played 14 times in La Liga, scoring twice and grabbing two assists. Fort would surely have played more but for a shoulder injury that required surgery midway through the campaign and sidelined him for several months. According to Diario Sport, Fort’s “absolute priority” is to stay at Barcelona and he’s hoping he can impress Hansi Flick during pre-season. There has been some interest in Fort over the summer, but it seems Flick will take a check on him during pre-season before making a final decision. Fort can play on both sides of the defence but Barcelona do have options on the two flanks with Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia and Alejandro Balde around. X avi Espart is also hoping to be part of the first-team squad, while Barca are expected to bring in Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal. What should Barcelona do with Hector Fort this summer? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Xavi Espart to change position? Barcelona star talks playing pivot for Spain’s Under-19s
DENBIGH, WALES - JULY 04: Xavi Espart Font of Spain arrives at the stadium prior to the UEFA European Under-19 Championship 2026 match between Spain and Germany at Central Park on July 04, 2026 in Denbigh, Wales. (Photo by Harry Murphy - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images) | UEFA via Getty Images Xavi Espart has been shining for Spain’s Under 19s this summer and has switched roles for his stint on international duty. The full-back has been playing in midfield and has been among the goals as Spain have booked their place in the final of the Under-19s Euros against Germany. Espart has been asked about his position switch and if Hansi Flick should be trying him in midfield next season for Barcelona. “Hansi will decide what needs to be done. Right now, the important thing is Saturday. We’ve fought hard to be here, and I’m fully focused on the final,” he told Marca. “At Barça I was able to make my debut as a full-back, and here I play as a defensive midfielder, which is where I played until I was a youth player. “I feel very comfortable in both positions, and I think that could be one of my strengths. Wherever they put me, I’ll give 100%.” Flick has previously compared Espart to Germany legend Philipp Lahm and he will certainly be one to watch next season at Barcelona.

Should Barcelona be concerned about Pedri’s struggles at World Cup 2026?
Photo by Europa Press Sports/Europa Press via Getty Images Spain successfully booked a spot in the World Cup 2026 semi-finals with a thrilling win over Belgium in the quarter-finals in Los Angeles, but the performance of Barcelona midfielder Pedri was once again a cause for concern. Pedri’s inconsistent displays throughout the tournament led to his benching against Belgium, with Fabián Ruiz taking his place in the lineup and scoring the opening goal of the game. The Wizard did come on at the hour mark but was nowhere near his best, and his presence in the starting XI for Tuesday’s gigantic semi-final against France is certainly in question. Pedri’s World Cup performance comes after a subpar (by his very high standards) end to his club season, which had a couple of injury absences that caused him to lose rhythm and not be able to replicate the extraordinary form shown for the majority of the last two years for club and country. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Should Barcelona be concerned about Pedri’s struggles at the World Cup? Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, opinions and answers in the comments section below!

Bayern keen on Jules Kounde but need to sell before making a move for Barcelona star

(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Bayern Munich are being credited with interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde but can’t move for the Frenchman unless they make room in the squad. German reporter Christian Falk has offered an update on the situation on his blog and says it is true the Bundesliga giants have been tracking Kounde for some time. “They like the player and have followed his progress, but there is no option at the moment to buy him right now, as they have to sell players. As I’ve mentioned previously, Sacha Boey is still on the list,” he added. “They have too many players available in this position; Konrad Laimer can play it, as can Josip Stanišić. So, if FC Bayern can sell Boey, perhaps they can make a move for Koundé. But, at the moment, there is no opportunity to do so. Givairo Read is obviously another name the club has looked at for the right-back position. But if they can’t sell anyone here, it’s getting difficult.” Barcelona are believed to be open to offers this summer for Kounde who is no longer considered to be untouchable at Camp Nou. However, Kounde has hinted he is not interested in a move. When quizzed on his future a World Cup 2026, the defender pointed out he has a contract with the club until 2030 and hopes to stay with the Catalans.

MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 14: Ferran Torres of FC Barcelona celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final Second Leg match between Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on April 14, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly not ruling out signing a replacement for Ferran Torres in case the Spain star leaves for Paris Saint-Germain this summer. There is speculation currently that Torres is in talks with PSG and could leave Barcelona to link up with Luis Enrique again in the French capital. According to Diario Sport, Barcelona remain determined to bring in Julian Alvarez but could also sign a replacement for Ferran as well. The two names mentioned are Dusan Vlahovic and Fisnik Asllani. Both players have been linked with Barcelona over the summer and are seemingly still in the club’s thoughts. Vlahovic is out of contract this summer and looking for a new club, while Asllani is thought to be keen to move to Barca. He has been linked with a move to Dortmund but a deal is yet to be done and his agent has previously admitted Barca have been in touch. Hamza Abdelkarim is also a potential candidate, although he is expected to play for Barca Atletic next season. The Egypt star will get a chance to impress during pre-season but may not be quite ready for first-team action just yet. Who would you like to replace Torres if he does leave Barcelona this summer? (Photo by Jan Kruger - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images) | UEFA via Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly stepping up efforts to land Club Brugge’s Jesse Bisiwu as they aim to bring in the exciting 18-year-old this summer. Club Brugge have rejected Barcelona’s first bid of €10 million for Bisiwu but negotiations between the two clubs are set to continue, according to Het Nieuwsblad. The report adds that Barcelona are “willing to go to great lengths” to sign Bisiwu who is into the last year of his contract with the Belgian side and looks set to leave this summer. Club Brugge sold Kaye Furo to Brentford earlier this year for €10m but inserted a sell-on clause into the transfer, and there’s speculation a similar formula could see Barcelona finally land Bisiwu. Barcelona have been monitoring Bisiwu for some time now and remain keen to add him to the ranks. However, they will have work to do to convince Club Brugge to part ways with the teenager this summer.

(Photo by Manu Reino/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images) | DeFodi Images via Getty Images Marc Casado says he’s already spoken with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick about his future amid talk that he will be sold by the club this summer. The midfielder has made it clear that his preference is to stay at the Camp Nou, but he’s also aware that he is one of seven midfielders battling for a starting spot at present. Casado and Flick spoke at the end of the previous campaign and the midfielder told La Vanguardia: “It was a good conversation. As long as the club and the manager want me, I’ll give my all to help the team.” Flick is said to have told Casado “to consider a move to get more playing time” but the 22-year-old will wait until the end of pre-season before making a final decision. “If I ever leave, I’d definitely like to come back. As long as the club and the coach want me, my first choice will be Barça,” he added. Casado seems to have attracted plenty of interest already but one thing seems clear – he’s in absolutely no rush to leave the club he joined when he was just 13.

Borussia Dortmund include hefty sell-on clause in Karim Adeyemi deal with Barcelona

(Photo by Ralf Ibing - firo sportphoto/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal for Karim Adeyemi to swap the Bundesliga side for the Camp Nou in a deal worth up to €29 million. The Catalans will pay a €22m fixed fee and an extra €9m in add-ons which are considered to be highly achievable. Dortmund have also inserted a sell-on clause into the transfer but there are conflicting numbers flying about. Sky’s Patrik Berger says the sell-on clause is 35% but reports in Spain claim it’s 20%. There’s also a bit of detail about Adeyemi’s salary. The winger will earn €6m net per season at Barcelona and is set to pen a five-year contract with the Catalans. Adeyemi is Barcelona’s second signing of the summer transfer window but is not expected to be the last. The Catalans remain keen to bring in Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid and are expected to bid for the Argentina international again after the World Cup. Joao Cancelo is also expected to join on a permanent transfer from Al-Hilal, following a successful loan spell. There was also speculation Barca would sign a defender earlier in the transfer window but such talk has since gone quiet.

Spain boss explains why he dropped Pedri for World Cup quarter-final vs Belgium
INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - JULY 10: Pedri Gonzalez of Spain looks on during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter Final match between Spain and Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium on July 10, 2026 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by Europa Press Sports/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has explained why he dropped Barcelona midfielder Pedri to the bench for Friday’s World Cup quarter-final against Belgium. Pedri was a surprise absentee from the starting XI for the match, with PSG star Fabian Ruiz getting the nod instead for the key match. De la Fuente was quizzed on his team selection after the game and offered up the following response. “It’s unfair that Mikel Merino isn’t playing, but it would be equally unfair if someone else were left out. Only eleven can play, and they understand that role, the part they have to play at any given moment. “When they come on, they know what they have to do, which is why it’s a pleasure to be their coach. Fabián is training very well, as is Pedri, but any of them could play. “We were looking to give the team a different feel; Fabián has more control of the game, he’s different from Pedri. We understood that’s what we needed: more attacking threat, while Pedri is left out for the final stages with his freshness and vision.” Ruiz did go on to score the opening goal in the match which ended in a 2-1 victory for Spain and set up a semi-final tie against France.

‘He’s very misunderstood’ – Barcelona’s Anthony Gordon sticks up for Marcus Rashford
(Photo by Eddie Keogh - The FA/The FA via Getty Images) | The FA via Getty Images The situation has painted Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford as rivals, but they are, in fact, team-mates. Both compete for the same spot on the wing for England in the FIFA World Cup, and one essentially replaced the other at Barcelona. Still, there are no hard feelings – far from it. “We’re in competition for a place. That’s football. At elite level, you’re always going to have that and that usually serves me well, so I’m completely fine with that, and I’m sure he is,” Gordon said in a new interview. England are preparing for a momentous clash against Norway, the dark horses of the tournament, in the quarter-finals. Manager Thomas Tuchel has swapped between Gordon and Rashford, but has recently committed to Gordon as a starter. Rashford is known for his charitable work and activism on social issues. Despite that, he has been criticized in the media – some would say unreasonably so – as being flashy or arrogant and for his hefty wage demands. “He is very misunderstood, I think, from the outside,” Gordon said. “I just think he has always got a bit of stick. From my point of view, he has always had a bit of a negative view, just a bit of stick. From when I met him and from all the camps I have been on with him, he is a really nice person, as most footballers are, by the way. “He is very humble, just quite kid-like. He just loves playing football. You see him, he’s always got a ball doing kick-ups and stuff. Lovely guy [who has] been well brought up, a nice family from what I know.” Gordon recently completed a move from Newcastle United to Barcelona, at the same time as the Catalan club decided not to make Rashford’s loan move permanent. There are players who may have felt cold feelings towards their teammate in such a situation, but not Rashford. Gordon says Rashford congratulated him right after the move to Barcelona got announced. “To be honest, he has been really helpful. I am trying to look for a house and he has helped me with things about the club, which is helpful, as I have not been there yet. He has been really helpful,” Gordon said.

Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund smiles prior to the Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund at MHPArena on April 4, 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany. (Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Bundesliga/Bundesliga Collection via Getty Images) Barcelona are reportedly preparing a new and improved offer for Karim Adeyemi after seeing an opening bid of €20 million turned down. According to Sky’s Patrick Berger, Barcelona are planning to offer Dortmund €20 million plus €10m in bonuses and the deal will include “an improved bonus structure to make the add-ons easier to achieve.” Barcelona apparently don’t want to go higher then €30m, with previous reports claiming that Dortmund were hoping for €40m for the Germany star. Berger also reports that Adeyemi has already agreed terms on a five-year deal with Barcelona, meaning if the two clubs can agree a fee, the rest of the deal should be straightforward. Barcelona’s cause is also helped by the fact that Adeyemi only has one year left on his contract. Dortmund are also reportedly already looking for a replacement, with FC Koln’s Said El Mala emerging as a target for the Bundesliga side.

Should Barcelona up their offer for Karim Adeyemi or walk away?
Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Barcelona are back in the transfer market with a surprise bid sent to Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Karim Adeyemi, with talks set to continue over the weekend. The club’s opening offer of €20 million was rejected, and Barça are reportedly not willing to go up to Dortmund’s asking price of €40 million. A new bid is expected to be sent in the coming days, with the club hoping to seal the deal without any drama and without having to exceed their budget. One could argue that Barça have already made a good enough offer of €20 million for a player entering the final year of his contract, however, and it’s worth wondering if the Catalans should even considering going higher given their other big plans in the window. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Should Barcelona up their offer for Karim Adeyemi or walk away? Now it’s over to you! (Photo by Koji Watanabe/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente says the best is yet to come from Barcelona star Lamine Yamal at World Cup 2026 ahead of their quarter-final tie with Belgium. Yamal returned from injury at the beginning of the tournament and scored on his first start for La Roja against Saudi Arabia. The teenager hasn’t found the back of the net since but has remained influential, and De la Fuente says he is raring to go ahead of the game in Los Angeles later. “If you look at Lamine’s situation, I think he’s a very dangerous player for opponents today because he’s very eager and motivated. But what we’re trying to do is calm that down so it doesn’t turn into anxiety, and that’s not positive. We want him to be motivated, with enormous desire, and he is,” he told reporters. “We know that the best Lamine, the offensive one, the most flashy and highly valued, is yet to come. Because he hasn’t yet made that leap to the level of brilliance we’re used to seeing from him. INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - JULY 02: Mikel Oyarzabal #21 of Spain celebrates after scoring his team’s third goal during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match between Spain and Austria at Los Angeles Stadium on July 02, 2026 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) | Getty Images Mikel Oyarzabal seems to have effectively shut the door on a potential move to Barcelona for good after making it clear it is possible to turn the Catalans down. Barcelona have been linked with Oyarzabal this summer but the Real Sociedad star has made it repeatedly clear he is happy where he is and is not thinking about a transfer. That hasn’t spotted journalists continuing to ask the Barcelona question, with Oyarzabal’s latest response suggesting he’s had enough of the speculation about a potential Camp Nou transfer. “Can you say no to Barcelona? Yes, you can. Of course you can. There are players who have told them no,“ he told El Chiringuito. “I’m immensely happy in San Sebastian, I consider Real Sociedad my home, it’s a place where I can live the life I want with my family. I’ve always said that I’m where I want to be.” Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona’s top choice even though Atletico don’t want to sell. Eli Junior Kroupi has been mentioned as a potential alternative, although he has also been linked with several other clubs this summer.

Gavi dreams of scoring a bicycle kick in the World Cup final for Spain vs Lionel Messi’s Argentina
LOS ANGELES, UNITED STATES - JULY 2: Gavi of Spain during the World Cup match between Spain v Austria at the Los Angeles Stadium on July 2, 2026 in Los Angeles United States (Photo by Eric Verhoeven/Soccrates/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona midfielder Gavi has revealed he’s always dreamed of scoring the winner in the World Cup final with a bicycle kick. Gavi is currently preparing for a quarter-final tie with Belgium and spoke about how he’d love to face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the final. “Of course I hope to be important in the World Cup. I dream of scoring the title-winning goal. I’ve always dreamed of scoring a bicycle kick in the World Cup final,” he told reporters. “They’re dreams, and I hope they come true. The opponent? I’d like Argentina because of Leo Messi, but as long as we reach the final, it doesn’t matter who it is.” Gavi started Spain’s opening game of the World Cup but has only featured once since as a substitute. He admits he wants to play more but that the team comes first. “I came here to win the World Cup. The manager knows me better than anyone. We all want to play more, but what really matters is winning the World Cup. He knows he can count on me for anything he needs,” he added. “I don’t like to talk about that. Belgium has magnificent players, as does Portugal. We have to do our job very well. If we do, things will surely turn out well. The important thing is to beat Belgium. France or Morocco? They are two great teams, but I would say Morocco, because they eliminated us in Qatar.” Spain take on Belgium on Friday and know a victory will see them progress to a semi-final against France or Morocco.

The Catalans are interesting in bringing the Germany star to Camp Nou and are confident they can get a deal done. However, they won’t pay the €40m that Dortmund are hoping for this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. 🚨🔵🔴 Barcelona will not match €40m price for Karim Adeyemi and remain confident to get deal done well under that fee. Adeyemy only wants Barça and will not sign new deal at Dortmund, eventually free to sign on a free from January. 🎥➕ https://t.co/E6frOy5yBf pic.twitter.com/XcOPDUZMNo — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 9, 2026 Dortmund are said to be willing to negotiate for Adeyemi, with the forward not expected to sign a new contract at the club and keen to make the move to Barcelona. It seems that negotiations for the forward are likely to continue as Barcelona seek to add another attacker to the squad in time for the 2026-27 season. Barcelona have already signed Anthony Gordon and remain in the hunt for Julian Alvarez. The club’s pursuit of Adeyemi is not expected to change Barca’s stance towards Alvarez. A new bid is expected for Alvarez after he’s finished international duty with Argentina at World Cup 2026, with Barcelona seeking a €210 million loan to fund their summer spending spree.

Here’s the club’s statement: “FC Barcelona and Defensor Sporting Club have reached an agreement to extend the loan of player Patricio Pacifico for another season, until the end of the 2026/27 season. The agreement includes maintaining the purchase option that already existed for the Uruguayan defender at the end of the season.” The news should be a boost for Pacifico as he recovers from an awful injury that will keep him out of action for a very long time. Anthony Gordon: ‘I have always been very intrigued to see who I can become’
England winger on his thirst for self-improvement, triumph at the Azteca and the ‘spiritual’ Thomas Tuchel It was a lighthearted moment – despite the language used – and Anthony Gordon saw the funny side. But trust the England winger to find a way to use it as fuel. It is what he does, what he has always done, since his childhood in Liverpool. It has helped him to reach the point where he completed a £60.7m transfer to Barcelona from Newcastle at the end of May. And it is driving him before Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami. Most people have seen the clip. There were 26 minutes on the clock at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday; England goalless against Mexico in the last 16. The Mexico manager, Javier Aguirre, who admits that swearing is second nature to him during matches, was in the mood to show off his English. He called out Gordon’s name and when the player turned around, he had a piece of advice. “Fuck you,” Aguirre shouted, before creasing up with laughter. Gordon did the same. Continue reading...

The Catalan giants have made the surprise move for the Germany star but will have to raise their offer if they are to bring him to Camp Nou. Marca say that Dortmund want at least the €33m they paid for Adeyemi, while previous reports have claimed the German side are holding out for €40m. Mundo Deportivo are also reporting the offer has been rejected but say Dortmund are willing to negotiate. Adeyemi is into the last year of his contract at Dortmund and is said to be unwilling to renew. The situation means that Dortmund must therefore sell him this summer or face losing him on a free transfer next year. The 24-year-old is also said to be eager to make the move to Barcelona and play under Hansi Flick again, but we’ll have to wait and see how far the Catalans are prepared to go to land Adeyemi.

(Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly seeking to secure a loan of €210 million to fund a summer spending spree to strengthen the first-team squad. The Catalans are hoping to be back at the 1:1 rule this summer but expect to exceed La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations again next season. Adeyemi has reportedly already agreed terms with Barcelona and the Catalans now just need to agree a price with Dortmund for the winger. Flick and Adeyemi have worked together previously. The German coached Adeyemi during his stint in charge of the national team and seems to be eager to be reunited with the 24-year-old at Barcelona.

Anthony Gordon: A solution to a Raphinha problem at Barcelona
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 1: Anthony Gordon of England celebrates during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between England and Congo DR at Atlanta Stadium on July 1, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images) | Getty Images Anthony Gordon is perhaps the most traditional type of English winger. He’s strong, fast, with an ability to whip a cross into the box and a work rate that goes toe-to-toe with Raphinha. He comes to Camp Nou with a hefty price tag, something that has made some fans skeptical, but there is a method to the madness. Firstly, Gordon is a younger, fitter and more intense variant of the profile Barca experimented with last season with Marcus Rashford. Secondly, sheer pace in the final third is a trait Barcelona have lacked. While technically breaking down an opponent is the Barcelona way, the brute force of a fast winger will solve situations when tactically things get slow. Gordon has been clocked as one of the fastest players at World Cup 2026, hitting a top speed of 37.9 km/h. What Gordon lacks in final product compared to Rashford, he brings in energy off the ball, a trait that fits the Flick system perfectly. This signing will need time to pay off. We might see Gordon struggling with fewer touches, and the more technical nature of La Liga compared to the Premier League, but that’s what was said about Raphinha when he signed from Leeds. The good thing is that Gordon can be a real handful due to his physical nature in attack, an area where experienced Premier League forwards always stand out, especially when compared to La Liga’s more technical forwards. Last season, Raphinha missed many important games due to injury and one thing that could not be replaced in his absence is work rate. Barca without Raphinha looked toothless without the ball, with no leader in pressing. Gordon certainly brings that profile over Rashford. Any team that wants to compete for all titles needs the ability to replicate similar profiles when squad rotation is necessary. Gordon’s work rate will be even more important when the calendar becomes dense as we move deeper into the season. This will also allow other forwards to be fresh and ready to go when the Champions League knockouts come around. Another thing that is noticeable is that there were moments last season where, in Pedri’s absence, Barca could not progress the ball forward with conviction. Having a ball-playing goalkeeper in Joan Garcia and a forward as pacy as Gordon can help in such situations. As seen at the World Cup, Gordon’s runs on goal kicks and other set pieces, along with a desire to put the ball in dangerous areas, have been important to England’s success. From an analysis standpoint, we will never be able to truly appreciate his quality if we simply look at goals and assists, but his ability to win the ball back and his intensity in pressing is what convinced Deco and Flick to move so swiftly to sign him. Gordon can also play both left wing and striker, which makes rotations in the final third smoother. Raphinha has a knack of dropping into the CAM or ST position and Gordon’s versatility to cover him on the left flank will reduce the Brazilian’s responsibility and allow him more freedom in attack. This is because Raphinha will not have to think about dropping deep to cover for his full-back, and transitions won’t have to be slowed down, creating more clear cut chances on the counter. The concern will always be the numbers and the end product. Quality without a great end product is often detrimental, as seen with a number of Barca forwards in the recent past. Gordon is a signing who will be judged harshly due to his high price tag, and he has his work cut out in proving that he is a forward worth €80 million. Another major concern is that technically, he is not elite. Often times we see him take one touch too many, or take a heavy touch when there is no space. This could be a frustrating aspect of seeing him play, but it certainly isn’t something that should be a deal breaker. In fact, Luis Diaz for Bayern could have faced similar problems but he has had a strong season at Bayern. Hopefully we see the same thing from Gordon in the coming years. So while it remains to be seen how exactly Gordon will fit in, it can be safely said that his signing was made with the system in mind. For Gordon, this is a new chapter in a new league, and he could be a treat to watch in Blaugrana

Marcus Rashford set to start season with Man Utd after end of Barcelona loan
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JULY 05: Marcus Rashford #11 of England arrives at the stadium before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match between Mexico and England at Mexico City Stadium on July 05, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Michael Regan - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images FC Barcelona did not execute Marcus Rashford’s purchase clause, and the player has already returned to Manchester United. Now, a new report makes it clear, the English club expects that he will start the season as a Red Devil, barring an unforeseen twist. The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last season, and though the management was generally happy with his performances, his salary was a stumbling block. Even though his transfer fee was not too high, Barça preferred to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United instead. Even though Gordon’s fee was higher, his salary was preferable to the Catalan club. What’s ironic is neither Rashford nor United seem thrilled with each other. It’s understood the Manchester club would be willing to part with him for the right price, but so far, no club has taken the deal. Rashford himself made overtures towards Barcelona, showing he wanted to stay, but ultimately, Barcelona would not agree to keep him at a salary Rashford was comfortable with. Despite this, United are not interested in another loan. Thus, unless positions soften or another club comes calling, Rashford will be reporting for duty with his current club after the FIFA World Cup ends. He will have three weeks off after England finish their campaign. United are due to start their pre-season campaign on Thursday. England will play Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup this Saturday.

Barcelona “submit official bid” to Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi
Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images So this one is out of nowhere… Barcelona have sent an official bid and are in talks with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of winger Karim Adeyemi, according to both Gerard Romero of Jijantes and Fabrizio Romano. Barça are seemingly not done after signing Anthony Gordon and want another winger in Adeyemi, who missed out on Germany’s squad for the World Cup due to injury but has been a fixture of the German team over the last few years. The 24-year-old finished a strong season with Dortmund with 10 goals and 6 assists and plenty of other contributions that go beyond the numbers. He is one of the fastest players in Europe and has improved his playmaking and finishing year after year, and he’s also — no surprise — a relentless pressing forward. Adeyemi has already given his OK to the move and it seems like this could become reality sooner rather than later, with Barça working in silence with Dortmund to avoid any leaks just as they did with Gordon and Newcastle. Beyond what Adeyemi’s arrival means for Barça’s depth at the wing position, which really suffered last season with Raphinha’s injuries and Marcus Rashford’s inconsistent performances, we have to wonder if Deco, Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick — who is apparently the driving force behind Adeyemi’s signing — know about potential exits. Raphinha’s future has been in question for several weeks and his World Cup is now over, allowing him time to consider a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Could Adeyemi’s arrival be a reaction to something the club already knows about Raphinha? Time will tell, but this is certainly a shock. What do you think of Adeyemi’s potential signing, Barça fans?

(Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona reportedly turned down the chance to sign Yan Diomande this summer in favor of landing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. A new report from Diario Sport claims that Barcelona had been scouting Diomande for a little while and were offered the chance to sign the exciting young star. However, Barcelona passed on the chance as they had already decided to go for Gordon after being impressed with the winger and his Champions League displays. Barcelona had been looking for a top-level winger, largely due to Raphinha’s injuries, and decided on Gordon due to his “speed, ability to attack spaces and intensity without the ball.” The report even goes as far as to claim that Flick “fell in love” with Gordon and told Deco to make the England international an “absolute priority” regarding summer transfers. Gordon subsequently signed in a transfer worth 80 million euros and much will be expected from him next season. Diomande, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents around. Liverpool had been keen to sign him this summer but the latest updates have claimed he wants to join PSG.

The defender has had his critics during his time in the first team but was shifted to a central defensive role and shone alongside Pau Cubarsi in the starting XI. The end of the season and early summer brought speculation that Barca would sign a new center-back before the start of next season but that talk has gone quiet, while Martin is already thinking about the new campaign. According to Diario Sport, Martin cut his holidays short and has spent the last three weeks working hard to be in the best shape possible for when pre-season rolls around. View this post on Instagram The defender has been working at the Dr Juan Boffa’s Sports Medicine Clinic on “strength sessions, stability and prevention work, mobility exercises, physical readaptation and physiotherapeutic treatment.” The report also adds that he also followed a personal training plan while on holiday and has also been heading to the Ciutat Esportiva over the last few weeks to work out alone. Martin enjoyed a great season last time out and his preparation for the new campaign suggests he is absolutely determined to continue in the same vein in the coming campaign. Barca’s focus in the transfer market appears to be solely on Julian Alvarez, meaning a center-back may not arrive after all and Martin could remain first choice going into the new campaign.

‘It’s a great pain’ – Raphinha speaks out after Brazil’s World Cup 2026 exit
(Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona star Raphinha has reflected on Brazil’s exit from World Cup 2026 after seeing their dreams ended in the last 16 by Norway. Raphinha only played twice at the World Cup due to injury and says the early exit from the competition is a painful one to take. “It is a great pain that we have not reached where we dreamed of together, you and us. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out how we imagined. It’s part of the sport. The defeat won’t always be what we want, but the pride of representing Brazil and of fighting to the end will never be erased. And for all our children who cry with us today, don’t give up on your dreams. Perhaps you have watched this Cup imagining what it would be like to be there one day. Keep that dream in your heart,” he wrote on Instagram. “You are our next generation. Keep believing, training, persevering and loving football. It’s dreams that Brazil has always lived, and it will be the dreams of you that will continue to write the history of our national team. I am honored to be Brazilian and to be part of this selection. Wearing this shirt and representing our country is a privilege that I will take with me forever. Regardless of the outcome, being part of this story is something I am extremely proud of.” View this post on Instagram Raphinha will now enjoy a break before returning to pre-season with Barcelona. The Catalans will be hoping that the forward can put his injury problems behind in 2026-27 and rediscover the inspirational form that has seen him become of the best players in the world during his time at Camp Nou.

Quietly confident Pau Cubarsi is the best of the Barcelona bunch for Spain at World Cup 2026
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 06: Pau Cubarsi #22 of Spain controls the ball against Nuno Mendes #25 of Portugal during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match between Portugal and Spain at Dallas Stadium on July 06, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Hannah Peters - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Now we’re really getting down to the nitty-gritty at the World Cup. With just eight teams left and the tension rising all the time. These are the games when tournaments are won and lost. When the going gets tough, the tough get going and all that. So far, with the possible exception of Germany going out of the tournament, there haven’t really been too many shocks to mull over. Norway beating Brazil shouldn’t really have surprised anyone because the current Selecao crop is nowhere close to being World Cup-winning material. One of the teams that certainly are in the mix to win the tournament is Spain. La Roja had been on an amazing unbeaten run prior to beginning their World Cup against Cape Verde – a game that almost certainly gave them a timely wake-up call. Since that opener, they’ve dispatched Saudi Arabia (4-0), Uruguay (1-0), Austria (3-0) and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal 1-0, earning a vast amount of plaudits along the way for the manner in which they continue to play the game. It remains very pleasing on the eye, but certain performances still remain largely under the radar. For example, in order for La Roja to have got to this stage without conceding a single goal, the back four, and particularly the centre of defence, need to be absolutely spot on in each and every game. Pau Cubarsi, just 19 years of age and playing at his first-ever World Cup, has been virtually peerless. Barcelona supporters have long known the class of the centre-back, who has continued to excel since being given his wings in the first team. What’s particularly pleasing about the youngster is his maturity and ability to take every game, no matter the importance, in his stride. That’s incredibly unusual for all but those players that could be regarded as truly elite and world-class, and yet nothing seems to faze Cubarsi. His performances are almost always at the highest level, though only occasionally universally acknowledged as such. During the World Cup, his positioning, tackling accuracy, speed of thought and actual speed have been one of the standout features of some fine all-round contributions. Whilst Mikel Oyarzabal or Lamine Yamal might be hogging the headlines, Cubarsi certainly deserves to have his own name in lights – particularly if Spain do go on to add the trophy to the European Championship won two years ago.

Barcelona reach verbal agreement with Al-Hilal on €10m João Cancelo transfer
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 17: Joao Cancelo of FC Barcelona celebrates a goal during the Spanish league, LaLiga EA Sports, football match played between FC Barcelona and Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou stadium on May 17, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo By Javier Borrego/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Following Portugal’s untimely elimination from the FIFA World Cup, FC Barcelona are speeding up their pursuit of João Cancelo. The fullback played on loan from Al Hilal last season, and the Catalans are keen on making the deal permanent following impressive performances. According to RAC1, Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with Al-Hilal that will see them pay no more than 10 million euros including bonuses for the defender. He had trouble settling in in Saudi Arabia, but he surprised Hansi Flick by putting in impressive performances when he returned to the top five leagues. The player himself reportedly felt let down by the Saudis, who left him out at a time he needed match rhythm to arrive at the World Cup. He made it clear to them that he was unwilling to return, which left Barcelona in a good negotiating position. Cancelo will likely sacrifice quite a bit in salary to make the transfer work, but he’s willing to do it to continue playing at the highest level and be at a club he feels comfortable in. He will sign a two-year deal with the option for one more year at Camp Nou. His transfer means likely exits for Héctor Fort and Xavi Espart, with both a transfer or a loan possible for either. Barça had looked at other options for a left-back in the transfer market, but ultimately their first choice was Cancelo. Marc Casadó has also reportedly received an offer from Saudi Arabia, but whether he moves will depend on his decision, and it is not expected to have anything to do with this transfer.

(Photo by Buda Mendes/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona legend Rivaldo could not hide his admiration for Lionel Messi after the GOAT helped fire Argentina into the quarter-finals of World Cup 2026. Lionel Scaloni’s side looked down and out after going 2-0 down to Egypt but produced a stirring comeback to win 3-2 and make it through to the quarter-finals. Rivaldo was quick to take to social media afterwards to speak of his admiration for Messi and his performance on Tuesday. “What a fighting spirit, what a desire to win, what a battle and dedication from everyone! This is exactly what the fan expects from his team in the World Cup,” he posted on Instagram. “As for talking about Leo Messi, it’s a given. What a player! At 39 years old, playing his sixth World Cup in his career, he still shows the same passion for the Argentina jersey; he celebrates, he fights, he cries, and once again he is the decisive player. ‘Incredible’ – Lionel Messi thrilled by Argentina win but ‘really angry’ at missing penalty
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - JULY 03: Lionel Messi #10 of Argentina celebrates after the team's second goal by Lisandro Martinez #6 during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match between Argentina and Cabo Verde at Miami Stadium on July 03, 2026 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Carmen Mandato - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Lionel Messi has shared his thoughts after Argentina qualified for the quarter-finals of World Cup 2026 after a 3-2 win over Egypt in the last 16. The GOAT was on target as the defending champions turned around a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2, thanks to a last-gasp goal from Enzo Fernandez. Messi was clearly emotional afterwards and admitted it was a huge relief to make it through. “Honestly, I’m happy to have qualified, because of how we did it. It got tough at 2-0. It was very exciting to be able to turn it around. We suffered a lot again, but this is the World Cup. All the matches are the same. Everything is very close. I’m very happy,” he told reporters. “It was a relief for everyone, given how the game unfolded. It’s not easy to come back from 2-0 down… But, as I always say, this group never gives up and tries until the very end. We were lucky to get Cuti’s goal early, we still had time left, and we turned it around in the 90 minutes. What this group did today was incredible. I’m very happy, very pleased that people can continue to enjoy it. I hope we keep going.” Messi missed the chance to make it 1-1 after missing a penalty and admitted he was devastated to pass up the chance from the spot. “I was really angry about the penalty, very distressed about missing again. If I had scored the penalty at that moment, it would have changed the game. We were playing well. Aside from the penalty, we had clear chances. The goalkeeper made some incredible saves,” he added. “Luckily, in the end, I got the chance. It’s something very special to be able to help this group after what had happened. It’s yet another example of pride, character, and desire. I’m very proud.” Messi has now missed two penalties at World Cup 2026 but he’s still the leading scorer with eight goals from five matches for Argentina.

Barcelona target Julian Alvarez asked if he’s changed his mind about Atletico future after Argentina win

(Photo by Europa Press Sports/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Julian Alvarez was quizzed on his future again on Tuesday after featuring in Argentina’s 3-2 win over Egypt in the last 16 of World Cup 2026. The defending champions looked to be heading out but a late comeback saw Lionel Scaloni’s side oust the Pharoahs and book a quarter-final tie against Switzerland or Colombia. Speaking afterwards, Alvarez was asked if he had changed his mind about his future at Atletico and offered up the following response. “I’m thinking about the quarterfinals now. Very important things are coming up so let’s focus on that,” he told reporters. Barcelona have made it clear that they want to sign Alvarez this summer, with club president Joan Laporta saying an offer has already been made to Atletico Madrid. The Catalans are expected to make another attempt to land Alvarez which is expected shortly, particularly as end of the World Cup is heading into view with the final set for July 19th.

Argentina 3-2 Egypt, World Cup 2026: Lionel Messi leads historic comeback as Albiceleste advance to quarter-finals
Photo by Evrim Aydin/Anadolu via Getty Images Argentina’s World Cup title defense is somehow, someway, remarkably still alive as the Albiceleste pulled off a historic comeback to beat Egypt 3-2 in their Round of 16 clash in Atlanta. After going down 2-0 in the first 80 minutes and looking all but done, Lionel Messi put on the cape and led a comeback that was completed by a 92nd minute winner from Enzo Fernández to send Argentina to the Last Eight in the most dramatic way imaginable. Reactions & Observations For 80 minutes in Atlanta, Argentina were staring at one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history with a flat, slow and very poor performance. Egypt defended for their lives, Mostafa Shoubir had the game of his life in goal, and the underdogs had a two-goal lead that felt like good enough to pull off a miracle. Then Lionel Messi happened: after missing an early penalty and not looking like himself he decided to put the country on his back, assisting Cuti Romero’s header and scoring a powerful and angry goal off the crossbar to equalize and bring the Albiceleste back to life. And there was still time for the miracle: a great pass from Julián Álvarez released Lautaro Martínez down the right wing, and his cross was headed home by Enzo Fernández to send the crowd into a frenzy and complete one of the greatest comebacks of all time. It’s hard to find the words to describe the feeling of watching that unfold, what this means for Messi’s legacy as he decides yet another World Cup game, and how much momentum Argentina will take from this despite a very poor performance. There is nothing like the World Cup. There will never be anything like the World Cup.

Lamine Yamal, Gavi & Barcelona stars console João Cancelo after Portugal World Cup KO
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 6: Joao Cancelo of Portugal reacts during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 16 match between Portugal and Spain at Dallas Stadium on July 6, 2026 in Arlington, United States. (Photo by Hugo Rivera/Jam Media/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spain’s FC Barcelona contingent went over to commiserate with Portugal fullback João Cancelo after Spain’s 1-0 win in the FIFA World Cup. The loss meant that the tournament was over for Cancelo. Portugal were considered to be one of the teams with a good chance of winning the tournament, albeit Spain were even stronger favorites. Notably, Spain and Barça star Lamine Yamal gave Cancelo a hug after the elimination. Those who played a role in the match from the contingent also went to give him support: Ferran Torres, Pedri, Dani Olmo and Pau Cubarsí. So too, did unused substitutes Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, and Gavi. Gavi in particular made a post on his Instagram of Cancelo kissing his head. The caption read, “always together, brother.” Cancelo ❤️ Gavi pic.twitter.com/u6jR7fS4o9 — Mundo Deportivo (@mundodeportivo) July 6, 2026 Apart from consoling a teammate during a difficult time and a sign of sportsmanship, the blaugrana’s reaction is being read as another hint that Cancelo is staying. Last season, he played on loan from Al Hilal. The latest rumors say that he is set to make the move permanent. Spain are set to play Belgium in the World Cup quarter-finals. Portugal, for their part, are left to rue what if. Their talented squad, featuring no less than three UEFA Champions League winners and the Premier League Player of the Year, once again fell short.

‘Tip of the iceberg’ – La Liga president Javier Tebas blasts FIFA over Folarin Balogun controversy
SAN LORENZO DE EL ESCORIAL MADR, SPAIN - JULY 02: The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas Medrano, is giving a lecture entitled ‘Diplomacy in sports relations. La Liga and the United States’ at one of the UCM Summer Courses, held at the Alfonso XII School on 2 July 2026 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid, Spain. The course ‘Geopolitical Trends (VII). The Geopolitics of Spanish-US Relations 250 Years After Spanish Aid’ offers an analysis of the geopolitics of Spanish-US relations 250 years after Spanish aid. (Photo By Eduardo Parra/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images La Liga president Javier Tebas has had his say on the Folarin Balogun saga that has been the talk of the football world over the last few days at World Cup 2026. Balogun was red-carded against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a decision in itself that caused controversy at the time, and was subsequently handed a one-game ban. The striker was set to miss the UMSNT’s last 16 tie against Belgium but the decision was overturned by FIFA (after a phone call from Donald Trump) which caused outrage across the world – particularly in the Belgium camp. Tebas has had his say on the matter in a lengthy post on social media and has been critical of FIFA for lifting the ban on Balogun. “The waiver of the sanction on U.S. player Balogun is neither an anecdote nor an isolated error. It is, quite simply, the tip of the iceberg of a governance model that has been eroding the credibility of FIFA and football in general for many years,” he posted. “When rules can be interpreted or modified as convenient; when the most consequential decisions are made without genuine dialogue and agreement with national/domestic leagues, which are the ones sustaining professional football 365 days a year (the vast majority of professional clubs and players do not participate in international competitions); when a unilateral agenda is imposed without listening to football’s main stakeholders, the problem stops being a specific resolution and becomes the system itself. “FIFA Congresses are: grand stagings of unanimity, no real debate, and decisions that arrive sealed before voting even begins. There are no agreements with national/domestic leagues; decisions are approved that constantly harm them. “The case of player Balogun does nothing but reinforce that perception; it is the tip of the iceberg. Moreover, if rules are applied with constant arbitrariness, trust disappears. And without trust, there is no institutional credibility. “And the worst of all is that much of the football world is aware of it, but too many prefer to maintain a complicit silence. Because staying quiet is more comfortable than defending independence, transparency, and good governance. “World football deserves institutions that are accountable, respect the rules, and govern with transparency—not through unilateral, discretionary, arbitrary decisions… that erode the trust of fans, clubs, leagues, and players.” Balogun did go on to play in the game against Belgium but the Red Devils had the last laugh, winning 4-1 and progressing to a quarter-final tie against Spain.

Would Australia’s World Cup star Lucas Herrington be a smart buy for Barcelona?
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 03: Lucas Herrington of Australia during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between Australia and Egypt at Dallas Stadium on July 03, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona have been credited with interest in Australia star Lucas Herrington throughout World Cup 2026, with the rumor mill excited about a potential summer transfer. The Catalans are said to have been following the highly-rated teenager for some time and are thinking about going for the Colorado Rapids defender. Herrington is just 18, is pretty tall (6 ft 4 in), strong in the air and has bags of potential. Since signing for Colorado Rapids he’s already come up against the likes of Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller and Son Heung-min in MLS. The defender featured against Paraguay and Egypt at World Cup 2026 and received support from Zlatan Ibrahimovic after missing a penalty in the shoot-out as the Socceroos were dumped out in the last 32. “Penalty is like lottery,” he said. “You score, you become a hero. You don’t score, sadly, you become zero. But I just want to reach out to Herrington. You’re 18 years old, you’re young. This is just the beginning of your career. You stepping up there, you show a lot of courage. Not everybody would do that. My friend, you’re the best. Don’t listen to the rest.” Herrington is reportedly valued at around €20 million by his club side and certainly seems to a player that Barcelona have taken an in interest in. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Would Australia’s World Cup star Lucas Herrington be a smart buy for Barcelona? Now it’s over to you! Ranking the best striker options for Barcelona as Julian Alvarez chase continues
(Photo by Guillermo Martinez/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Barcelona is arguably the only top European club currently without a world-class striker following Robert Lewandowski’s exit and have therefore been linked with just about any player whose job description includes ‘putting the ball in the goal.’ As you might expect, the media picks have been anything from outrageous nonsense to actually making sense. On a scale of 1-10, I’m rating some of the top options (and some of my own picks) from likely to impossible depending on a variety of factors including wage demands, transfer fee, likelihood of their club selling and general quality. Impossible to Very Unlikely (1-10 to 3-10) Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Etta Eyong, Mikel Oyarzabal Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland is the ultimate dream but he’ll likely cost over €200m, especially due to his ongoing World Cup heroics. Kane is also another expensive option, especially since he’s the current Ballon d’Or favourite, but looks set to stay at Bayern in any case. He is also just weeks away from his 33rd birthday so this would be another Lewandowski-type short-term signing. Similarly, Liverpool would at least want to recoup a large part of their investment in Isak or Ekitike which means at least €100m even if the Reds do agree to sell. It’s doubtful either player would want to relocate so soon either, while injuries are a real issue. Isak’s recent history is a real worry and Ekitike is a long-term injury victim after rupturing his Achilles. Eyong was linked with Barcelona last year but simply hasn’t done enough to convince. He may be talented, but a striker option is needed now and he’s simply not the finished product Oyarzabal, when asked about the rumours, made it as clear as he could (without being disrespectful) that he’s not interested – Real Sociedad is his life and he wants to stay and do well. Unlikely but possible (4-10 to 6-10) Victor Osimhen, Joao Pedro, Hamza Abdelkarim, Oscar Gistau, Maximilian Beier, Serhou Guirassy, no one. Osimhen is the perfect profile in my opinion but Galatasaray spent €75m on him and his price tag will only have increased. He also seems happy in Türkiye, has no reason to leave, and his wages are likely to be a problem if reports are accurate. Pedro would be cheaper and on lower wages but Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to negotiate for the Brazil star who only joined the club 12 months ago and had a good first season at Stamford Bridge. Guirassy is already the wrong side of 30, would be a cheap stop-gap option at best, and doesn’t seem to be what Deco and Co are looking for right now. Beier is super talented but not quite the finished product. He would be a cheap option but has been inconsistent. Unless he improves very rapidly, he’s not quite there yet There’s an outside chance Hamza or Gistau might burst onto the scene like Marc Guiu did, have a brilliant pre-season and early season, and just become a regular first-teamer. However, that’s a long shot and Barcelona need a more concrete option. Also, you can’t discount the possibility of no striker signing at all and Barcelona just using Gordon or Ferran Torres. Yet that doesn’t seem likely either, as the board are very keen on a signing and seem to have money to spend. Outside bets (7-10 to 9-10) Mika Biereth, Fisnik Asllani, Alexander Sorloth, Dusan Vlahovic, Ante Budimir, Joaquin Panichelli, Brian Brobbey Biereth seems like an incredible pick-up option or ‘market opportunity’ as Deco calls it but there’s been very little chatter which suggests he’s not on Barca’s radar. Still, he’s young, possesses the perfect profile of a tall target forward, would be cheap and easy to re-sell if the deal doesn’t work out. Sorloth, Vlahovic and Budimir would all be last-ditch options near deadline day if they’re still available. All three are cheap and Aubameyang-style options for Barca. Budimir has been doing it in La Liga for years and culers know all about Sorloth. Asllani is unproven at the top level but looks to be one for the future. His social media activity suggests he loves Barcelona but a move to Dortmund appears to be on the cards. Panichelli tore up Ligue 1 for Strasbourg last season and is another outside bet, while Brobbey fits but his price will likely skyrocket after his goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup. The top man (9.5-10) Julian Alvarez The only reason this isn’t a 10-10 is due to his price, the fact Atletico reportedly want €150 million and have their hearts set on not selling to us. But he’d be a good fit, would score plenty (he bagged enough in that Simeone system, imagine what he could do in Flickball) and has strongly hinted that Barca is his dream move. Really excited to see what he could do here if he does end up joining. Let us know which striker you would prefer at Barcelona and if there’s anyone I’ve missed in the comments below!

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s operation to sign Cancelo is “well advanced” and could be completed shortly. Cancelo is set to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona in a transfer that will cost up to 10 million euros. The report adds that Cancelo just has a few tax issues to finalise in Saudi Arabia before the transfer can be completed. The Portugal international spent the second half of last season at Barcelona and impressed on loan in his second stint with the club. Cancelo had then made it clear he did not want to return to parent club Al-Hilal and it looks increasingly like he will stay at Barcelona.

‘One of the most important performances of his career’ – Spain boss hails Lamine Yamal after Portugal win
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JULY 06: Lamine Yamal of Spain celebrates after the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 16 match between Portugal and Spain at Dallas Stadium on July 06, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Catherine Ivill - AMA/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has hailed Lamine Yamal in the wake of the team’s 1-0 win over Portugal at World Cup 2026. A late goal from Mikel Merino sent Spain into the quarter-finals of the competition and a date with Belgium. Yamal came up against Nuno Mendes during the game, a player he has recently described as his toughest opponent, but saw him depart in the second half due to injury. De la Fuente says the match was one of the most important games Yamal has ever played and was thrilled with his performance. “He played one of the most important matches of his life, one that helped him grow. Nuno’s injury was possibly a consequence of the demands Yamal put on him,” he told reporters. “He did a spectacular job, he suffered for the team, and he delivered one of the most important performances of his career. And he still has so much more to achieve at this World Cup.” How did you see Yamal’s performance against Portugal? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Cristian Romero looking to join Barcelona or Atlético Madrid
SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND - APRIL 12: Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur is seen crying during the Premier League match between Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur at Stadium of Light on April 12, 2026 in Sunderland, England. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images) | Getty Images Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina defender Cristian Romero is on the move, and his destination is Spain. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are willing to sell Romero after the FIFA World Cup, and the player himself wants to head to La Liga. Despite reports linking Romero back with a move to Serie A, the news from Romano says that Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid are in pole position to swoop in. With several other defenders on the books, and no European football in the upcoming season, Spurs can be convinced to part ways with Romero. However, they do not have to sell if they don’t want to. Romero has a a contract until 2029 after signing an extension last year. The player himself also needs to be convinced that he’s joining the right project and for the right pay. Barcelona are looking at centerback options, with the chance that some could be leaving, but nothing has been confirmed yet. However, the appeal of Romero – a hardnosed defender with technique who has played and won the biggest matches – is obvious. Atlético have another card to play, however: the Argentina connection. Managed by an Argentine, Diego Simeone, Atléti also count with a glut of national team players for La Albiceleste. Though, interestingly, one is in the process of trying to leave for Barcelona – Julián Alvarez.

Portugal 0-1 Spain, World Cup 2026: La Roja dominate second half, advance to quarter-finals
Photo by Torbjorn Tande/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Spain’s journey in World Cup 2026 continues as La Roja secured safe passage to the quarter-finals thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Iberian rivals Portugal in Dallas on Monday’s Round of 16 clash. After a great back-and-forth battle in the first half, La Roja established their superiority in the second and sealed the victory in added time thanks to a Mikel Merino winner assisted by Ferran Torres to set up a quarter-final against the USA or Belgium on Friday. Reactions & Observations If the opening 45 minutes were a wondeful back-and-forth battle between two very talented squads, the second half showed exactly why Spain are a team and Portugal are a collection of individuals: La Roja were far superior in the final period, and deservedly won the game at the end after dominating in every phase of the game. The much-anticipated duel between Nuno Mendes and Lamine Yamal was a lot of fun: both players were up for it and both came out on top in different moments, and it’s a real shame that it only lasted 55 minutes as Mendes was forced off with an injury. Yamal’s performance was far from perfect, but he was still involved in plenty of dangerous moments and did a lot of damage as a playmaker. With better finishing around him, he could have easily gotten an assist in this one. Luis de la Fuente isn’t exactly beloved by Barcelona fans, but his impact on this game is undeniable: two crucial substitutions (Ferran Torres and Mikel Merino) that changed the feel of the contest and ultimately won it at the end. Sorry, everyone, but he’s a good coach. Speaking of sorry, the apology needs to be as loud as the disrespect when it comes to Ferran: he came off the bench determined to put pressure on the Portugal defense with his non-stop running with and without the ball, and his assist for Merino’s winner was a beautiful display of his quality. Very decisive contributions from a player who will forever be underrated, even by fans of his own club. Spain are through as deserved winners, and after a dominant performance against Austria they showed up again and were far superior to Portugal in the second half. This is the type of win and display that makes you believe they can actually do it in a possible semi-final against France if they get past USA or Belgium in Friday’s quarter-final.

Both will start playing for Barça Atlètic. The Catalans signed Joni Hernández – the supposed “new Pedri” – for 500k euro. Tenerife retain 25% rights of a future sale. Additional bonuses may be paid based on him hitting certain milestones, which could include players going the other way. 📌 Acuerdo con el CD Tenerife para la incorporación de 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐢 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚́𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 al Barça Atlètic ✍🏼 Firma hasta el 2️⃣0️⃣3️⃣0️⃣ 🙌🏼 ¡𝐵𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑑𝑜, 𝐽𝑜𝑛𝑖! 💙❤️ https://t.co/c7OQI6cix2 — Barça Atlètic (@FCBarcelonaB) July 6, 2026 The 18-year-old winger will come alongside 22-year-old Juan Ybarra, a midfielder. Ybarra had been a key piece for Tenerife B and has made his debut with the senior team. Despite being young, he is a bit on the older side for Barcelona’s B team. Barça Atlètic sometimes sign slightly older players purely for additional depth and leadership. Hernández is left-footed and plays on the right, known for his skill and ability. He has gone from youth teams to the B team to debuting for the senior team extremely quickly. Like Pedri, he was born and raised in the Canary Islands and played for Las Palmas’s youth team at one point. Like Pedri, he’s known as a skilled winger who may have potential as a midfielder. Hernández may have shone on Barcelona’s radar when he impressed against them in a youth match. Barça hope they have uncovered another diamond in the rough.

(Photo by Aitor Alcalde Colomer/Getty Images) | Getty Images Marc Casado has once again made it clear he’s in no rush to leave Barcelona amid continued talk that he will be sold this summer. The midfielder’s future has been in doubt due to a lack of minutes and the stiff competition for places in Hansi Flick’s squad. Casado has been asked again about his future and says he’ll only leave if he’s told he’s surplus to requirements at Camp Nou. “I feel like getting back to it. It’s been a different season. Nobody likes taking part less. Whatever it takes, I’ll give everything for the club,” he told Jijantes. “As long as the coach and the club want me, I’ll stay here.” The midfielder then spoke about some of the speculation about his future, adding: “I try not to look at the news. I found out that some clubs had signed me through messages from friends… a lot of nonsense comes out. “On Monday, I’ll speak with whoever is necessary. With the coach, the club, agents, and we’ll decide what’s best.” Casado has been linked with moves to Monaco, AC Milan and the Saudi Pro League over the summer. Barca are said to be hoping for a fee of around €20-30 million if he does depart.

The Barcelona new signing has had to put with some criticism at the tournament but bagged two assists off the bench last time out as the Three Lions beat DR Congo. That performance was enough to convince Thomas Tuchel to put Gordon back into the starting XI against Mexico and he delivered another important contribution. Gordon won the crucial penalty for Harry Kane to make it 3-1 to England after Tuchel’s side had been reduced to 10 men when Jarrell Quansah was sent off for a foul on Jesus Gallardo. 🌍 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 💪 Gordon played the full 90 minutes and was crucial in England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico, securing a place in the World Cup quarter-finals. 📸 @FIFAcom pic.twitter.com/cinY50VZwv — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) July 6, 2026 Here’s what he made of it all after the game. “It was really, really difficult, really hard, the altitude, one man less,” he told ITV Sport. “We had one man less, so you have to do more. You’ve seen I went from left wing, to striker to center-mid. You have to make good decisions, run more than you used to, sacrifice, that’s what we were doing in the end. We were blocking everything.” Gordon also spoke about the hard work that goes in on the training ground. “We work so hard in training, I hope you believe me, we push each other so hard. I know when adversity comes, we are going to be ready,” he added. “If you train harder than the game is going to be, then it becomes much easier. Let’s talk about Mikel Oyarzabal: Spain’s quiet man forced into the limelight
The 29-year-old forward always avoided attention, but his World Cup goals have dragged him into the centre of the conversation We have to talk about Mikel Oyarzabal. When Spain scored their third goal against Austria in Los Angeles, cameras caught Lamine Yamal’s little brother celebrating, fists clenched and shouting “come on!”. The picture couldn’t have been more perfect, and not just because Keyne is impossibly cute. Even the apparent imperfection was just right. On the row below, clapping and half-hiding the three-year-old, was a woman in sunglasses, prompting a Spanish TV commentator to post: “The blonde in front has denied us the best sticker of all time.” To which the striker Borja Iglesias replied: “The blonde in front has given you two goals today, my friend.” Turns out the blonde woman is Oyarzabal’s mum: her name is Dorleta and it was her son who had just scored his second goal of the game and his fourth of the tournament. Two days later, after the Selección had finished their first training session in Dallas, Marca asked Oyarzabal if he had seen the footage. Continue reading...

(Photo by Alex Pantling - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Barcelona midfielder Gavi is not expecting his club to sign Mikel Oyarzabal this summer from Real Sociedad as he expects the striker to remain with the Basque side. There’s been talk that Oyarzabal could be on Barcelona’s radar this summer if Julian Alvarez can’t be tempted to Camp Nou, but Gavi doesn’t see such a transfer happening. “I know Oyarzabal wants to be a Real Sociedad legend and I think he will stay there forever,” he told Catalunya Radio. Oyarzabal has also made it clear he’s happy at La Real when asked about his future at the World Cup. “In football you never know what can happen, just like in life. But I’ve always said that San Sebastián is my home, I feel as if I’ve lived there all my life and I couldn’t ask for more,” he told Carrusel Deportivo. Alvarez remains Barcelona’s top target and a new bid is expected to be made shortly. Joan Laporta has said the club have already made one offer and the rumor mill thinks a new bid of around €130m is being planned.

Portugal vs Spain, World Cup 2026: Team News, Match Preview

La Roja arrive at this stage after their best performance of the tournament in the Round of 32, cruising past Austria and dominating every phase of the game. They finally played like title contenders, but now face a monster test on the road to the quarter-finals. Portugal’s pre-tournament credentials placed them as one of the favorites due to their depth of world-class talent in almost every position, but their World Cup performance has not been anywhere near good enough. In fact, Portugal can count themselves extremely lucky to be here after being thoroughly outplayed by Croatia and needing a very late winner and a very controversial VAR decision to avoid extra-time and escape the Round of 32. Roberto Martínez’s side do not look like favorites or something even close to that, but it’s impossible to think this will be easy for Spain. Portugal tend to rise to the occasion, and they beat Spain in last year’s Nations League Final. They have too much talent to be taken for granted, and they’ll require La Roja’s very best. The duel between Lamine Yamal and Nuno Mendes was a big talking point in that Nations League clash and is once again the big highlight matchup in this one, and Lamine’s ability to conquer one of his toughest opponents will be crucial to Spain’s ability to advance to the quarters. Spain showed in the last round they are a better team than Portugal, but their opponents have a crazy talented collection of individuals. It’s time to see what wins at the biggest stage. Let’s dance. (Be careful, Lamine.) POSSIBLE LINEUPS Spain (4-2-3-1): Simón; Porro, Cubarsí, Laporte, Cucurella; Rodri, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Baena; Oyarzabal Portugal (4-2-3-1): Costa; Cancelo, Dias, Veiga, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha; Neto, Fernandes, Leão; Ronaldo PREDICTION Portugal is messy and should be beaten, but their talent simply cannot be taken for granted. This will be fun and open and full of chances, and I’m picking Spain to find a way to win a thriller: 3-2 La Roja.

(Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is confident his players can handle the threat offered by Cristiano Ronaldo when his team face Portugal at World Cup 2026 on Monday. Ronaldo is still going at the age of 41 and has scored four goals so far at the World Cup. De la Fuente was asked about a possible duel between Pau Cubarsi and Ronaldo and says the Barcelona star can handle it. “You can never relax against Cristiano, just like with Lamine or Oyarzabal. But I have absolute confidence in my players. That’s the game: to overcome the opponent, especially near the penalty areas. Both Pau and Laporte have shown absolute composure. They are exceptional and can beat any opponent. It’s a battle to see who can do the most. I think we can control those situations,” he told reporters. “A footballer isn’t defined solely by his talent, but by a thousand other factors. And players like Cubarsí, Lamine, and Nico have a brilliant command of those situations. That’s the difference. They’re technically gifted, but the key is how they handle those moments. They play with great composure. At crucial moments, a player like Laporte brings that experience, and they complement each other fantastically. We’ve achieved a phenomenal balance. Between the four of us.” Cubarsi has shone for Spain so far at the tournament but De la Fuente has warned his players that Ronaldo will pose a threat. “I’m a huge fan of Cristiano, of people like him. Strong-willed, tireless. A role model. I’m in awe of him. It’s not the legacy he’s leaving, but the one he’s going to leave,” he added. “We have to be aware of him in every situation. It’s not about man-marking him, but we do have to be aware of him everywhere on the pitch. I’d prefer he didn’t play, but he’s going to play. We’ll enjoy watching one of the best players in history on the field.” Spain are yet to concede a goal at the tournament so far and know victory over Portugal will send them through to a quarter-final against USA or Belgium.

(Photo by Aitor Alcalde Colomer/Getty Images) | Getty Images Dani Olmo has been discussing Barcelona’s search for a new No. 9 to replace Robert Lewandowski ahead of the summer transfer window. Julian Alvarez has emerged as the club’s top transfer target but Olmo says he would be happy to play in the position if required by Hansi Flick. “I’ve already played in this position and I wouldn’t have any problem playing there if the manager considers it necessary. I feel comfortable there,” he told RAC1. “I also see Ferran Torres, a player who scored a lot of goals last year and will continue to do so because he’s a great player, and now we also have Gordon, who I understand can also play in this position. So we have enough players to cover it, and if others arrive, they’ll be welcome to add to the squad.” Despite Olmo’s words, Barcelona are expected to bring in a new striker. ‘Make the defence suffer’ – Spain boss hoping for ‘great match’ from Lamine Yamal against Portugal

(Photo by Maja Hitij - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente wants to see Lamine Yamal make Portugal’s defence suffer on Monday when the two teams meet in the last 16 of the World Cup. The Spain boss was asked if he wants to see more defensive effort from Yamal but made it clear he wants to see the teenager causing problems for the Portugal backline. “Lamine is always willing to work harder, but we shouldn’t ask more of him. We’re all delighted with what he gives us. What we need to do is make the opposing defense suffer, knowing that if they take the initiative, everyone will have to suffer,” he told reporters. “I see him getting more motivated every day. Those of you who know him know this; Lamine loves responsibility, being in the spotlight, taking the initiative. That’s why we’re working on that aspect: 0% anxiety, 100% motivation. It’s a joy to watch him train. I’m sure it will be a great match for him; he has all the ingredients for it to be.” De la Fuente also previewed Yamal’s duel with Nuno Mendes and says the teenager shouldn’t worry about previous encounters against the PSG defender. “Nuno Mendes has surely been a tough nut to crack for many defenders; he’s very good. Just as Lamine has undoubtedly given many defenders a rough night,” he added. “But above all, he needs to avoid anxiety. He needs to focus on himself and the team, as he does. Every match is different. Let’s not assume that just because an opponent beats you once, they’ll always do it. Let’s hope he gives us a glorious afternoon.” Will Spain make it past Portugal and into the quarter-finals? Share your score predictions in the comments below!

(Photo by Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Ciancaphoto Studio/Getty Images) | Getty Images Cristiano Ronaldo is set to face Lamine Yamal and Spain on Monday at World Cup 2026 and was asked about the Barcelona youngster ahead of the game. The Portugal veteran was asked for his thoughts on Yamal and offered up the following response at the press conference. “Lamine is a player with a very bright future. I didn’t see any of Spain’s matches, I only saw a bit of the game against Cape Verde, but as I said, he has a very bright future,” he told reporters. “But I see Spain as a whole. They’re very good, they play very well, and it will be very tough. Ronaldo was also asked about recent comments from Yamal about how he handles criticism and understands not all fans will like him. “I think the more prepared you are, the better you’ll survive a long football career. If you succumb to criticism, you’re finished. It’s normal; it’s your job. Some criticism is constructive, and other criticism is just to tear you apart,” he added. “I understand; it’s part of how the press sells the news. In your case, you have to get used to it if you want a long career. You have to focus on those who care about you. I learned that over the years. Difficult times will come, obviously; there will certainly be days when you don’t feel like working, and that’s normal. It’s part of our job.” Spain and Portugal meet in Dallas on Monday in what will be a repeat of last year’s Nations League final which Roberto Martinez’s side won on penalties.

I think both he and I are focused and concentrated on the game,” he added. “I don’t think he’ll talk to me until after the game, and I won’t talk to him either. We’re both focused on our country, our national team, and winning.” The winners of the tie will face USA or Belgium in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

‘That’s what he changed’ – Pedri reveals Barcelona’s biggest transformation under Hansi Flick
Hansi Flick head coach of Barcelona and Pedri central midfield of Barcelona and Spain celebrate the victory after winning during the LaLiga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol de Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou on April 11, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Barcelona midfielder Pedri has spoken about Hansi Flick while on World Cup duty with Spain and the changes the German has made at the club during his time in charge. Pedri says that Flick tweaked his position at Barcelona but also feels the way he changed the team’s entire mentality was key to their recent success. “Above all, he started putting me at the base of the attack so I’d be in contact with the ball. It’s true that, for example, Luis Enrique also asked me to drop deep, to get on the ball and feel comfortable there,” he told AS. “But Flick changed my position on the field and, above all, he instilled in us a winning mentality, a competitive one. “That’s what he’s really changed, and he’s transformed the team’s mentality. We have to thank him; he’s changed Barça’s mentality.” Barcelona have won two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and a couple of Spanish Super Cup since Flick took charge. He signed a contract extension in the summer and will be gunning for more trophies with Barcelona in 2026-27.

Should Barcelona let Marc-André ter Stegen join Ajax on loan or keep him as backup?
Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images According to the latest reporting, Marc-André ter Stegen is set to join Ajax on loan from Barcelona as the German goalkeeper looks to play regular minutes after a lost 2025-26 season due to injury. Ter Stegen only played two games on loan at Girona before an injury that ended his campaign, and he’ll likely leave Camp Nou for the season again due to the undisputed starter status of Joan Garcia. But considering the reports of Barça having to cover a majority of Ter Stegen’s salary and the uncertain backup situation at the club after Iñaki Peña’s exit and veteran Wojciech Szczesny standing as the only other goalkeeper in the squad, it’s a good idea to explore the theme of whether or not Barça will regret not having MATS around next season. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Should Barcelona let Marc-André ter Stegen join Ajax or keep him as backup? Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, opinions and answers in the comments section below!

(Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) | Getty Images Mikel Oyarzabal has been quizzed on his future once again at World Cup 2026 and spoke again about his happiness at Real Sociedad. There have been whispers that Oyarzabal is a potential Plan B for Barcelona if the Catalans fail to land Julian Alvarez in the summer transfer window. The Spain star admits that “you never know” what might happen in football but once again spoke about how he feels completely at home with La Real. “In football you never know what can happen, just like in life. But I’ve always said that San Sebastián is my home, I feel as if I’ve lived there all my life and I couldn’t ask for more,” he told Carrusel Deportivo. “I’ve always felt very loved and valued by my club during my time there, which is most of the year. Every time I come to the national team, the same thing happens, both from the coach and my teammates. Also from everyone at Real Sociedad. I feel very loved, valued, and respected. And that’s what I take away from it.” Oyarzabal is currently with Spain preparing to face Portugal in the last 16 of World Cup 2026. The striker has four goals so far in the tournament and will be aiming to add to that tally on Monday in Dallas.

Spain boss offers Lamine Yamal advice ahead of clash with Nuno Mendes and Portugal
BARCELONA, SPAIN - OCTOBER 01: Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona runs with the ball whilst under pressure from Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD2 match between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on October 01, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo by Judit Cartiel/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has had some words of advice for Lamine Yamal ahead of Spain’s last 32 tie against Portugal at World Cup 2026. The game will see Yamal come up against Nuno Mendes once again. Yamal has said recently that Mendes is the toughest opponent he has faced, and De la Fuente has analyzed the match-up between the two players. “He has faced him with his club and his country. In that process of development that Lamine is still in, he knows that it is the big games against great opponents that lay down a marker: they’re the ones that shape and define you, show you a path,” he told The Guardian. “Lamine is a competitor and he will have the desire to remove the thorn from his side from that [Nations League] game. But a long time has passed since then and Lamine has grown a lot. Lamine is not the player he was a year ago; he’s another player, more mature, more assured, he reads the games better, logically. “With every stage of his development, every experience, he will be more complete. So what would I say to him? ‘Be yourself, enjoy football, with the responsibility that comes with it, the responsibility that you take on, but be yourself.’” Spain head into the match after an impressive win over Austria in the Round of 32, while Portugal booked their place with a 2-1 win over Croatia.

Luis de la Fuente: ‘I say this with the greatest respect: we have the best midfield in the world’
Spain’s manager answers your questions on advice for Lamine Yamal, the hardest thing about being a coach and how the current team compares to the winners of 2010 “You’ve filtered these, right?” Luis de la Fuente asks, looking at the laptop of your questions on the table in front of him, and cracking up. He takes his seat on the third floor of the Cotton Bowl, Dallas, where Spain have just finished training ahead of their last-16 meeting with Portugal. Some of the players are still out there in the sunshine, in the place where Bebeto rocked the baby in 1994. It is the morning after that Cape Verde performance against Argentina. The World Cup is a creator of memories, pictures in the mind that never go. We all have one, or more. “Because of what it means for Spain, it has to be [Andrés] Iniesta’s goal,” De la Fuente says. “It’s not very original but that’s the image of the World Cup for us. I would have been at home watching it. I have always been very into the national team. Whenever the Selección played, it was an event at my parents’ house. My parents would watch, my brothers and sisters, people would come round to watch. That’s in Haro, La Rioja. And then as a professional, wherever the game found me, I would watch it. I would enjoy every World Cup game, but especially the Spain ones. There are other images of the World Cup, but that’s the most powerful.” Continue reading...

Who is your favorite Barcelona unsung hero of all time?
Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images I loved Seydou Keita. So much. Never has a player embodied the words “underrated” or “unsung hero” such as him. He was one of the most complete midfielders of his time, and the legendary Barcelona teams of Pep Guardiola with Sergio Busquets, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta would not have been the same if not for Keita’s quiet brilliance. And he never, ever, got the credit. Barça’s history is filled with superstars in every era, true generational talents who changed the game and became legends with their goals, trophies and unforgettable moments. But Barça fans also remember fondly those who may not be considered legends or superstars but played a crucial part in the success of the teams they were a part of. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Who is your favorite Barcelona unsung hero of all time? Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, opinions and answers in the comments section below!
