Keep, sell or loan: What should Barcelona do with Hector Fort?
Hector Fort of Elche CF celebrates a goal during the La Liga EA Sports match between Real Betis and Elche CF at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, Spain, on May 12, 2026. (Photo by Jose Luis Contreras/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Hector Fort is back at Barcelona after a season on loan at Elche and is determined to fight for a place in the squad for the 2026-27 season. The defender says he’s “learned and improved” from his time away from Barcelona after a campaign where he played 14 times in La Liga, scoring twice and grabbing two assists. Fort would surely have played more but for a shoulder injury that required surgery midway through the campaign and sidelined him for several months. According to Diario Sport, Fort’s “absolute priority” is to stay at Barcelona and he’s hoping he can impress Hansi Flick during pre-season. There has been some interest in Fort over the summer, but it seems Flick will take a check on him during pre-season before making a final decision. Fort can play on both sides of the defence but Barcelona do have options on the two flanks with Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia and Alejandro Balde around. X avi Espart is also hoping to be part of the first-team squad, while Barca are expected to bring in Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal. What should Barcelona do with Hector Fort this summer? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Bayern keen on Jules Kounde but need to sell before making a move for Barcelona star

(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Bayern Munich are being credited with interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde but can’t move for the Frenchman unless they make room in the squad. German reporter Christian Falk has offered an update on the situation on his blog and says it is true the Bundesliga giants have been tracking Kounde for some time. “They like the player and have followed his progress, but there is no option at the moment to buy him right now, as they have to sell players. As I’ve mentioned previously, Sacha Boey is still on the list,” he added. “They have too many players available in this position; Konrad Laimer can play it, as can Josip Stanišić. So, if FC Bayern can sell Boey, perhaps they can make a move for Koundé. But, at the moment, there is no opportunity to do so. Givairo Read is obviously another name the club has looked at for the right-back position. But if they can’t sell anyone here, it’s getting difficult.” Barcelona are believed to be open to offers this summer for Kounde who is no longer considered to be untouchable at Camp Nou. However, Kounde has hinted he is not interested in a move. When quizzed on his future a World Cup 2026, the defender pointed out he has a contract with the club until 2030 and hopes to stay with the Catalans.

MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 14: Ferran Torres of FC Barcelona celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final Second Leg match between Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on April 14, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly not ruling out signing a replacement for Ferran Torres in case the Spain star leaves for Paris Saint-Germain this summer. There is speculation currently that Torres is in talks with PSG and could leave Barcelona to link up with Luis Enrique again in the French capital. According to Diario Sport, Barcelona remain determined to bring in Julian Alvarez but could also sign a replacement for Ferran as well. The two names mentioned are Dusan Vlahovic and Fisnik Asllani. Both players have been linked with Barcelona over the summer and are seemingly still in the club’s thoughts. Vlahovic is out of contract this summer and looking for a new club, while Asllani is thought to be keen to move to Barca. He has been linked with a move to Dortmund but a deal is yet to be done and his agent has previously admitted Barca have been in touch. Hamza Abdelkarim is also a potential candidate, although he is expected to play for Barca Atletic next season. The Egypt star will get a chance to impress during pre-season but may not be quite ready for first-team action just yet. Who would you like to replace Torres if he does leave Barcelona this summer? (Photo by Jan Kruger - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images) | UEFA via Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly stepping up efforts to land Club Brugge’s Jesse Bisiwu as they aim to bring in the exciting 18-year-old this summer. Club Brugge have rejected Barcelona’s first bid of €10 million for Bisiwu but negotiations between the two clubs are set to continue, according to Het Nieuwsblad. The report adds that Barcelona are “willing to go to great lengths” to sign Bisiwu who is into the last year of his contract with the Belgian side and looks set to leave this summer. Club Brugge sold Kaye Furo to Brentford earlier this year for €10m but inserted a sell-on clause into the transfer, and there’s speculation a similar formula could see Barcelona finally land Bisiwu. Barcelona have been monitoring Bisiwu for some time now and remain keen to add him to the ranks. However, they will have work to do to convince Club Brugge to part ways with the teenager this summer.

Borussia Dortmund include hefty sell-on clause in Karim Adeyemi deal with Barcelona
DORTMUND, GERMANY - MARCH 14: Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park on March 14, 2026 in Dortmund, Germany. (Photo by Ralf Ibing - firo sportphoto/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal for Karim Adeyemi to swap the Bundesliga side for the Camp Nou in a deal worth up to €29 million. The Catalans will pay a €22m fixed fee and an extra €9m in add-ons which are considered to be highly achievable. Dortmund have also inserted a sell-on clause into the transfer but there are conflicting numbers flying about. Sky’s Patrik Berger says the sell-on clause is 35% but reports in Spain claim it’s 20%. There’s also a bit of detail about Adeyemi’s salary. The winger will earn €6m net per season at Barcelona and is set to pen a five-year contract with the Catalans. Adeyemi is Barcelona’s second signing of the summer transfer window but is not expected to be the last. The Catalans remain keen to bring in Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid and are expected to bid for the Argentina international again after the World Cup. Joao Cancelo is also expected to join on a permanent transfer from Al-Hilal, following a successful loan spell. There was also speculation Barca would sign a defender earlier in the transfer window but such talk has since gone quiet.

‘He’s very misunderstood’ – Barcelona’s Anthony Gordon sticks up for Marcus Rashford
(Photo by Eddie Keogh - The FA/The FA via Getty Images) | The FA via Getty Images The situation has painted Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford as rivals, but they are, in fact, team-mates. Both compete for the same spot on the wing for England in the FIFA World Cup, and one essentially replaced the other at Barcelona. Still, there are no hard feelings – far from it. “We’re in competition for a place. That’s football. At elite level, you’re always going to have that and that usually serves me well, so I’m completely fine with that, and I’m sure he is,” Gordon said in a new interview. England are preparing for a momentous clash against Norway, the dark horses of the tournament, in the quarter-finals. Manager Thomas Tuchel has swapped between Gordon and Rashford, but has recently committed to Gordon as a starter. Rashford is known for his charitable work and activism on social issues. Despite that, he has been criticized in the media – some would say unreasonably so – as being flashy or arrogant and for his hefty wage demands. “He is very misunderstood, I think, from the outside,” Gordon said. “I just think he has always got a bit of stick. From my point of view, he has always had a bit of a negative view, just a bit of stick. From when I met him and from all the camps I have been on with him, he is a really nice person, as most footballers are, by the way. “He is very humble, just quite kid-like. He just loves playing football. You see him, he’s always got a ball doing kick-ups and stuff. Lovely guy [who has] been well brought up, a nice family from what I know.” Gordon recently completed a move from Newcastle United to Barcelona, at the same time as the Catalan club decided not to make Rashford’s loan move permanent. There are players who may have felt cold feelings towards their teammate in such a situation, but not Rashford. Gordon says Rashford congratulated him right after the move to Barcelona got announced. “To be honest, he has been really helpful. I am trying to look for a house and he has helped me with things about the club, which is helpful, as I have not been there yet. He has been really helpful,” Gordon said.

Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund smiles prior to the Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund at MHPArena on April 4, 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany. (Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Bundesliga/Bundesliga Collection via Getty Images) Barcelona are reportedly preparing a new and improved offer for Karim Adeyemi after seeing an opening bid of €20 million turned down. According to Sky’s Patrick Berger, Barcelona are planning to offer Dortmund €20 million plus €10m in bonuses and the deal will include “an improved bonus structure to make the add-ons easier to achieve.” Barcelona apparently don’t want to go higher then €30m, with previous reports claiming that Dortmund were hoping for €40m for the Germany star. Berger also reports that Adeyemi has already agreed terms on a five-year deal with Barcelona, meaning if the two clubs can agree a fee, the rest of the deal should be straightforward. Barcelona’s cause is also helped by the fact that Adeyemi only has one year left on his contract. Dortmund are also reportedly already looking for a replacement, with FC Koln’s Said El Mala emerging as a target for the Bundesliga side.

Should Barcelona up their offer for Karim Adeyemi or walk away?
Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Barcelona are back in the transfer market with a surprise bid sent to Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Karim Adeyemi, with talks set to continue over the weekend. The club’s opening offer of €20 million was rejected, and Barça are reportedly not willing to go up to Dortmund’s asking price of €40 million. A new bid is expected to be sent in the coming days, with the club hoping to seal the deal without any drama and without having to exceed their budget. One could argue that Barça have already made a good enough offer of €20 million for a player entering the final year of his contract, however, and it’s worth wondering if the Catalans should even considering going higher given their other big plans in the window. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Should Barcelona up their offer for Karim Adeyemi or walk away? Now it’s over to you! I have no idea what the situation is, but I hope so.” Argentina and Spain are both preparing for quarter-final ties at World Cup 2026, with Yamal admitting that he’s been impressed by Lionel Messi’s performances for the defending champions. “Incredible. Everyone knows who Messi is, but no one expected him to be playing at such a high level. I’m so happy for him. I’m happy for Neymar and Cristiano too,” he added. “They’ve shaped the childhoods of everyone playing now. Anything good that happens to them will be good for me. And if I make it to the final, I want to win it.” Spain take on Belgium for a place in the last four on Friday, while Argentina are up against Switzerland on Sunday.

Barcelona seek €210m loan to fund summer spending spree amid Karim Adeyemi, Julian Alvarez transfer talk
STUTTGART, GERMANY - APRIL 04: Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund celebrates following the team's victory during the Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund at MHPArena on April 04, 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany. (Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona are reportedly seeking to secure a loan of €210 million to fund a summer spending spree to strengthen the first-team squad. The Catalans have already signed Anthony Gordon in a deal worth €80m and are also said to be hoping to land Karim Adeyemi and Julian Alvarez. According to Cadena SER, Barcelona want to secure a “€210 million loan against its television rights payments for the coming seasons” to help when it comes to transfers. The Catalans are hoping to be back at the 1:1 rule this summer but expect to exceed La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations again next season. The reports adds that “delays in the Camp Nou renovations” have caused “some cash flow problems” which has seen Barcelona seek a loan to cover “expenses in the coming months.” Dortmund are said to want around €40m for Adeyemi, although that price may come down as he’s in the last month of his contract, while Atletico are reportedly asking for €150m for Alvarez.

The Catalans have caused a stir by making a bid for the Borussia Dortmund forward who is said to be eager to make the switch to Camp Nou. According to Gerard Romero, Flick “hopes that Adeyemi will be with the group on Monday at the start of the Blaugrana preseason.” Barcelona are due back next week to start pre-season, altough Flick will be without a host of big names as many of his players are still at World Cup 2026 or on holiday after their involvement in the tournament. Adeyemi has reportedly already agreed terms with Barcelona and the Catalans now just need to agree a price with Dortmund for the winger. Flick and Adeyemi have worked together previously. The German coached Adeyemi during his stint in charge of the national team and seems to be eager to be reunited with the 24-year-old at Barcelona.

Anthony Gordon: A solution to a Raphinha problem at Barcelona
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 1: Anthony Gordon of England celebrates during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between England and Congo DR at Atlanta Stadium on July 1, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images) | Getty Images Anthony Gordon is perhaps the most traditional type of English winger. He’s strong, fast, with an ability to whip a cross into the box and a work rate that goes toe-to-toe with Raphinha. He comes to Camp Nou with a hefty price tag, something that has made some fans skeptical, but there is a method to the madness. Firstly, Gordon is a younger, fitter and more intense variant of the profile Barca experimented with last season with Marcus Rashford. Secondly, sheer pace in the final third is a trait Barcelona have lacked. While technically breaking down an opponent is the Barcelona way, the brute force of a fast winger will solve situations when tactically things get slow. Gordon has been clocked as one of the fastest players at World Cup 2026, hitting a top speed of 37.9 km/h. What Gordon lacks in final product compared to Rashford, he brings in energy off the ball, a trait that fits the Flick system perfectly. This signing will need time to pay off. We might see Gordon struggling with fewer touches, and the more technical nature of La Liga compared to the Premier League, but that’s what was said about Raphinha when he signed from Leeds. The good thing is that Gordon can be a real handful due to his physical nature in attack, an area where experienced Premier League forwards always stand out, especially when compared to La Liga’s more technical forwards. Last season, Raphinha missed many important games due to injury and one thing that could not be replaced in his absence is work rate. Barca without Raphinha looked toothless without the ball, with no leader in pressing. Gordon certainly brings that profile over Rashford. Any team that wants to compete for all titles needs the ability to replicate similar profiles when squad rotation is necessary. Gordon’s work rate will be even more important when the calendar becomes dense as we move deeper into the season. This will also allow other forwards to be fresh and ready to go when the Champions League knockouts come around. Another thing that is noticeable is that there were moments last season where, in Pedri’s absence, Barca could not progress the ball forward with conviction. Having a ball-playing goalkeeper in Joan Garcia and a forward as pacy as Gordon can help in such situations. As seen at the World Cup, Gordon’s runs on goal kicks and other set pieces, along with a desire to put the ball in dangerous areas, have been important to England’s success. From an analysis standpoint, we will never be able to truly appreciate his quality if we simply look at goals and assists, but his ability to win the ball back and his intensity in pressing is what convinced Deco and Flick to move so swiftly to sign him. Gordon can also play both left wing and striker, which makes rotations in the final third smoother. Raphinha has a knack of dropping into the CAM or ST position and Gordon’s versatility to cover him on the left flank will reduce the Brazilian’s responsibility and allow him more freedom in attack. This is because Raphinha will not have to think about dropping deep to cover for his full-back, and transitions won’t have to be slowed down, creating more clear cut chances on the counter. The concern will always be the numbers and the end product. Quality without a great end product is often detrimental, as seen with a number of Barca forwards in the recent past. Gordon is a signing who will be judged harshly due to his high price tag, and he has his work cut out in proving that he is a forward worth €80 million. Another major concern is that technically, he is not elite. Often times we see him take one touch too many, or take a heavy touch when there is no space. This could be a frustrating aspect of seeing him play, but it certainly isn’t something that should be a deal breaker. In fact, Luis Diaz for Bayern could have faced similar problems but he has had a strong season at Bayern. Hopefully we see the same thing from Gordon in the coming years. So while it remains to be seen how exactly Gordon will fit in, it can be safely said that his signing was made with the system in mind. For Gordon, this is a new chapter in a new league, and he could be a treat to watch in Blaugrana

Marcus Rashford set to start season with Man Utd after end of Barcelona loan
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JULY 05: Marcus Rashford #11 of England arrives at the stadium before the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match between Mexico and England at Mexico City Stadium on July 05, 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico. (Photo by Michael Regan - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images FC Barcelona did not execute Marcus Rashford’s purchase clause, and the player has already returned to Manchester United. Now, a new report makes it clear, the English club expects that he will start the season as a Red Devil, barring an unforeseen twist. The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last season, and though the management was generally happy with his performances, his salary was a stumbling block. Even though his transfer fee was not too high, Barça preferred to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United instead. Even though Gordon’s fee was higher, his salary was preferable to the Catalan club. What’s ironic is neither Rashford nor United seem thrilled with each other. It’s understood the Manchester club would be willing to part with him for the right price, but so far, no club has taken the deal. Rashford himself made overtures towards Barcelona, showing he wanted to stay, but ultimately, Barcelona would not agree to keep him at a salary Rashford was comfortable with. Despite this, United are not interested in another loan. Thus, unless positions soften or another club comes calling, Rashford will be reporting for duty with his current club after the FIFA World Cup ends. He will have three weeks off after England finish their campaign. United are due to start their pre-season campaign on Thursday. England will play Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup this Saturday.

Barcelona “submit official bid” to Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi
Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images So this one is out of nowhere… Barcelona have sent an official bid and are in talks with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of winger Karim Adeyemi, according to both Gerard Romero of Jijantes and Fabrizio Romano. Barça are seemingly not done after signing Anthony Gordon and want another winger in Adeyemi, who missed out on Germany’s squad for the World Cup due to injury but has been a fixture of the German team over the last few years. The 24-year-old finished a strong season with Dortmund with 10 goals and 6 assists and plenty of other contributions that go beyond the numbers. He is one of the fastest players in Europe and has improved his playmaking and finishing year after year, and he’s also — no surprise — a relentless pressing forward. Adeyemi has already given his OK to the move and it seems like this could become reality sooner rather than later, with Barça working in silence with Dortmund to avoid any leaks just as they did with Gordon and Newcastle. Beyond what Adeyemi’s arrival means for Barça’s depth at the wing position, which really suffered last season with Raphinha’s injuries and Marcus Rashford’s inconsistent performances, we have to wonder if Deco, Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick — who is apparently the driving force behind Adeyemi’s signing — know about potential exits. Raphinha’s future has been in question for several weeks and his World Cup is now over, allowing him time to consider a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Could Adeyemi’s arrival be a reaction to something the club already knows about Raphinha? Time will tell, but this is certainly a shock. What do you think of Adeyemi’s potential signing, Barça fans?

Barcelona passed up chance to sign Yan Diomande in favor of Anthony Gordon
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 30: Yan Diomande #11 of Cote d'Ivoire looks on during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between Cote d'Ivoire and Norway at Dallas Stadium on June 30, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona reportedly turned down the chance to sign Yan Diomande this summer in favor of landing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. A new report from Diario Sport claims that Barcelona had been scouting Diomande for a little while and were offered the chance to sign the exciting young star. However, Barcelona passed on the chance as they had already decided to go for Gordon after being impressed with the winger and his Champions League displays. Barcelona had been looking for a top-level winger, largely due to Raphinha’s injuries, and decided on Gordon due to his “speed, ability to attack spaces and intensity without the ball.” The report even goes as far as to claim that Flick “fell in love” with Gordon and told Deco to make the England international an “absolute priority” regarding summer transfers. Gordon subsequently signed in a transfer worth 80 million euros and much will be expected from him next season. Diomande, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents around. Liverpool had been keen to sign him this summer but the latest updates have claimed he wants to join PSG.

(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Gerard Martin was one of the surprise heroes for Barcelona last season as Hansi Flick’s side picked up La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles. The defender has had his critics during his time in the first team but was shifted to a central defensive role and shone alongside Pau Cubarsi in the starting XI. The end of the season and early summer brought speculation that Barca would sign a new center-back before the start of next season but that talk has gone quiet, while Martin is already thinking about the new campaign. According to Diario Sport, Martin cut his holidays short and has spent the last three weeks working hard to be in the best shape possible for when pre-season rolls around. View this post on Instagram The defender has been working at the Dr Juan Boffa’s Sports Medicine Clinic on “strength sessions, stability and prevention work, mobility exercises, physical readaptation and physiotherapeutic treatment.” The report also adds that he also followed a personal training plan while on holiday and has also been heading to the Ciutat Esportiva over the last few weeks to work out alone. Martin enjoyed a great season last time out and his preparation for the new campaign suggests he is absolutely determined to continue in the same vein in the coming campaign. Barca’s focus in the transfer market appears to be solely on Julian Alvarez, meaning a center-back may not arrive after all and Martin could remain first choice going into the new campaign.

Barcelona reach verbal agreement with Al-Hilal on €10m João Cancelo transfer
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 17: Joao Cancelo of FC Barcelona celebrates a goal during the Spanish league, LaLiga EA Sports, football match played between FC Barcelona and Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou stadium on May 17, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo By Javier Borrego/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Following Portugal’s untimely elimination from the FIFA World Cup, FC Barcelona are speeding up their pursuit of João Cancelo. The fullback played on loan from Al Hilal last season, and the Catalans are keen on making the deal permanent following impressive performances. According to RAC1, Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with Al-Hilal that will see them pay no more than 10 million euros including bonuses for the defender. He had trouble settling in in Saudi Arabia, but he surprised Hansi Flick by putting in impressive performances when he returned to the top five leagues. The player himself reportedly felt let down by the Saudis, who left him out at a time he needed match rhythm to arrive at the World Cup. He made it clear to them that he was unwilling to return, which left Barcelona in a good negotiating position. Cancelo will likely sacrifice quite a bit in salary to make the transfer work, but he’s willing to do it to continue playing at the highest level and be at a club he feels comfortable in. He will sign a two-year deal with the option for one more year at Camp Nou. His transfer means likely exits for Héctor Fort and Xavi Espart, with both a transfer or a loan possible for either. Barça had looked at other options for a left-back in the transfer market, but ultimately their first choice was Cancelo. Marc Casadó has also reportedly received an offer from Saudi Arabia, but whether he moves will depend on his decision, and it is not expected to have anything to do with this transfer.

(Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona have been credited with interest in Australia star Lucas Herrington throughout World Cup 2026, with the rumor mill excited about a potential summer transfer. The Catalans are said to have been following the highly-rated teenager for some time and are thinking about going for the Colorado Rapids defender. Herrington is just 18, is pretty tall (6 ft 4 in), strong in the air and has bags of potential. Since signing for Colorado Rapids he’s already come up against the likes of Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller and Son Heung-min in MLS. The defender featured against Paraguay and Egypt at World Cup 2026 and received support from Zlatan Ibrahimovic after missing a penalty in the shoot-out as the Socceroos were dumped out in the last 32. “Penalty is like lottery,” he said. “You score, you become a hero. You don’t score, sadly, you become zero. But I just want to reach out to Herrington. You’re 18 years old, you’re young. This is just the beginning of your career. Ranking the best striker options for Barcelona as Julian Alvarez chase continues
(Photo by Guillermo Martinez/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Barcelona is arguably the only top European club currently without a world-class striker following Robert Lewandowski’s exit and have therefore been linked with just about any player whose job description includes ‘putting the ball in the goal.’ As you might expect, the media picks have been anything from outrageous nonsense to actually making sense. On a scale of 1-10, I’m rating some of the top options (and some of my own picks) from likely to impossible depending on a variety of factors including wage demands, transfer fee, likelihood of their club selling and general quality. Impossible to Very Unlikely (1-10 to 3-10) Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Etta Eyong, Mikel Oyarzabal Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland is the ultimate dream but he’ll likely cost over €200m, especially due to his ongoing World Cup heroics. Kane is also another expensive option, especially since he’s the current Ballon d’Or favourite, but looks set to stay at Bayern in any case. He is also just weeks away from his 33rd birthday so this would be another Lewandowski-type short-term signing. Similarly, Liverpool would at least want to recoup a large part of their investment in Isak or Ekitike which means at least €100m even if the Reds do agree to sell. It’s doubtful either player would want to relocate so soon either, while injuries are a real issue. Isak’s recent history is a real worry and Ekitike is a long-term injury victim after rupturing his Achilles. Eyong was linked with Barcelona last year but simply hasn’t done enough to convince. He may be talented, but a striker option is needed now and he’s simply not the finished product Oyarzabal, when asked about the rumours, made it as clear as he could (without being disrespectful) that he’s not interested – Real Sociedad is his life and he wants to stay and do well. Unlikely but possible (4-10 to 6-10) Victor Osimhen, Joao Pedro, Hamza Abdelkarim, Oscar Gistau, Maximilian Beier, Serhou Guirassy, no one. Osimhen is the perfect profile in my opinion but Galatasaray spent €75m on him and his price tag will only have increased. He also seems happy in Türkiye, has no reason to leave, and his wages are likely to be a problem if reports are accurate. Pedro would be cheaper and on lower wages but Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to negotiate for the Brazil star who only joined the club 12 months ago and had a good first season at Stamford Bridge. Guirassy is already the wrong side of 30, would be a cheap stop-gap option at best, and doesn’t seem to be what Deco and Co are looking for right now. Beier is super talented but not quite the finished product. He would be a cheap option but has been inconsistent. Unless he improves very rapidly, he’s not quite there yet There’s an outside chance Hamza or Gistau might burst onto the scene like Marc Guiu did, have a brilliant pre-season and early season, and just become a regular first-teamer. However, that’s a long shot and Barcelona need a more concrete option. Also, you can’t discount the possibility of no striker signing at all and Barcelona just using Gordon or Ferran Torres. Yet that doesn’t seem likely either, as the board are very keen on a signing and seem to have money to spend. Outside bets (7-10 to 9-10) Mika Biereth, Fisnik Asllani, Alexander Sorloth, Dusan Vlahovic, Ante Budimir, Joaquin Panichelli, Brian Brobbey Biereth seems like an incredible pick-up option or ‘market opportunity’ as Deco calls it but there’s been very little chatter which suggests he’s not on Barca’s radar. Still, he’s young, possesses the perfect profile of a tall target forward, would be cheap and easy to re-sell if the deal doesn’t work out. Sorloth, Vlahovic and Budimir would all be last-ditch options near deadline day if they’re still available. All three are cheap and Aubameyang-style options for Barca. Budimir has been doing it in La Liga for years and culers know all about Sorloth. Asllani is unproven at the top level but looks to be one for the future. His social media activity suggests he loves Barcelona but a move to Dortmund appears to be on the cards. Panichelli tore up Ligue 1 for Strasbourg last season and is another outside bet, while Brobbey fits but his price will likely skyrocket after his goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup. The top man (9.5-10) Julian Alvarez The only reason this isn’t a 10-10 is due to his price, the fact Atletico reportedly want €150 million and have their hearts set on not selling to us. But he’d be a good fit, would score plenty (he bagged enough in that Simeone system, imagine what he could do in Flickball) and has strongly hinted that Barca is his dream move. Really excited to see what he could do here if he does end up joining. Let us know which striker you would prefer at Barcelona and if there’s anyone I’ve missed in the comments below!

Newcastle close in on signing Ajax generational talent Sean Steur for £23m
Howe rebuilding side after Tonali and Gordon exits Widely hyped as Amsterdam club’s next De Jong Newcastle are close to completing the signing of Sean Steur from Ajax for about £23m. The two-footed central midfielder is only 18 but has been widely hyped as the Amsterdam club’s brightest emerging midfield talent since Frenkie de Jong. While De Jong left for Barcelona in 2019, Steur, who can operate as a No 6 or a No 8, seems almost certainly Tyneside bound. At St James’ Park he is likely to start next season competing with Lewis Miley to fill Sandro Tonali’s old central midfield role and will be given time to adjust to the Premier League’s physicality. Barcelona hoping to complete Joao Cancelo deal after Portugal’s World Cup exit

Roberto Martinez’s side were beaten 1-0 by Spain on Monday in the last 16 and will shortly be heading home from the tournament. According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s operation to sign Cancelo is “well advanced” and could be completed shortly. Cancelo is set to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona in a transfer that will cost up to 10 million euros. The report adds that Cancelo just has a few tax issues to finalise in Saudi Arabia before the transfer can be completed. The Portugal international spent the second half of last season at Barcelona and impressed on loan in his second stint with the club. Cancelo had then made it clear he did not want to return to parent club Al-Hilal and it looks increasingly like he will stay at Barcelona.

Cristian Romero looking to join Barcelona or Atlético Madrid
SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND - APRIL 12: Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur is seen crying during the Premier League match between Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur at Stadium of Light on April 12, 2026 in Sunderland, England. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images) | Getty Images Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina defender Cristian Romero is on the move, and his destination is Spain. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are willing to sell Romero after the FIFA World Cup, and the player himself wants to head to La Liga. Despite reports linking Romero back with a move to Serie A, the news from Romano says that Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid are in pole position to swoop in. With several other defenders on the books, and no European football in the upcoming season, Spurs can be convinced to part ways with Romero. However, they do not have to sell if they don’t want to. Romero has a a contract until 2029 after signing an extension last year. The player himself also needs to be convinced that he’s joining the right project and for the right pay. Barcelona are looking at centerback options, with the chance that some could be leaving, but nothing has been confirmed yet. However, the appeal of Romero – a hardnosed defender with technique who has played and won the biggest matches – is obvious. Atlético have another card to play, however: the Argentina connection. Managed by an Argentine, Diego Simeone, Atléti also count with a glut of national team players for La Albiceleste. Though, interestingly, one is in the process of trying to leave for Barcelona – Julián Alvarez.

(Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images FC Barcelona have signed two young players from CD Tenerife, one of which has drawn comparisons to another Canary Islands footballer – Pedri. Both will start playing for Barça Atlètic. The Catalans signed Joni Hernández – the supposed “new Pedri” – for 500k euro. Tenerife retain 25% rights of a future sale. Additional bonuses may be paid based on him hitting certain milestones, which could include players going the other way. 📌 Acuerdo con el CD Tenerife para la incorporación de 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐢 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚́𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 al Barça Atlètic ✍🏼 Firma hasta el 2️⃣0️⃣3️⃣0️⃣ 🙌🏼 ¡𝐵𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑑𝑜, 𝐽𝑜𝑛𝑖! 💙❤️ https://t.co/c7OQI6cix2 — Barça Atlètic (@FCBarcelonaB) July 6, 2026 The 18-year-old winger will come alongside 22-year-old Juan Ybarra, a midfielder. Ybarra had been a key piece for Tenerife B and has made his debut with the senior team. Despite being young, he is a bit on the older side for Barcelona’s B team. Barça Atlètic sometimes sign slightly older players purely for additional depth and leadership. Hernández is left-footed and plays on the right, known for his skill and ability. He has gone from youth teams to the B team to debuting for the senior team extremely quickly. Like Pedri, he was born and raised in the Canary Islands and played for Las Palmas’s youth team at one point. Like Pedri, he’s known as a skilled winger who may have potential as a midfielder. Hernández may have shone on Barcelona’s radar when he impressed against them in a youth match. Barça hope they have uncovered another diamond in the rough.

Whatever it takes, I’ll give everything for the club,” he told Jijantes. “As long as the coach and the club want me, I’ll stay here.” The midfielder then spoke about some of the speculation about his future, adding: “I try not to look at the news. I found out that some clubs had signed me through messages from friends… a lot of nonsense comes out. “On Monday, I’ll speak with whoever is necessary. With the coach, the club, agents, and we’ll decide what’s best.” Casado has been linked with moves to Monaco, AC Milan and the Saudi Pro League over the summer. Barca are said to be hoping for a fee of around €20-30 million if he does depart.

The Barcelona new signing has had to put with some criticism at the tournament but bagged two assists off the bench last time out as the Three Lions beat DR Congo. That performance was enough to convince Thomas Tuchel to put Gordon back into the starting XI against Mexico and he delivered another important contribution. Gordon won the crucial penalty for Harry Kane to make it 3-1 to England after Tuchel’s side had been reduced to 10 men when Jarrell Quansah was sent off for a foul on Jesus Gallardo. 🌍 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 💪 Gordon played the full 90 minutes and was crucial in England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico, securing a place in the World Cup quarter-finals. 📸 @FIFAcom pic.twitter.com/cinY50VZwv — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) July 6, 2026 Here’s what he made of it all after the game. “It was really, really difficult, really hard, the altitude, one man less,” he told ITV Sport. “We had one man less, so you have to do more. You’ve seen I went from left wing, to striker to center-mid. You have to make good decisions, run more than you used to, sacrifice, that’s what we were doing in the end. We were blocking everything.” Gordon also spoke about the hard work that goes in on the training ground. “We work so hard in training, I hope you believe me, we push each other so hard. I know when adversity comes, we are going to be ready,” he added. “If you train harder than the game is going to be, then it becomes much easier. Because we push each other so hard, in those moments, it becomes second nature.” How did you rate Anthony Gordon’s performance and are you more excited now to see him in a Barcelona shirt? There’s been talk that Oyarzabal could be on Barcelona’s radar this summer if Julian Alvarez can’t be tempted to Camp Nou, but Gavi doesn’t see such a transfer happening. “I know Oyarzabal wants to be a Real Sociedad legend and I think he will stay there forever,” he told Catalunya Radio. Oyarzabal has also made it clear he’s happy at La Real when asked about his future at the World Cup. “In football you never know what can happen, just like in life. I feel comfortable there,” he told RAC1. “I also see Ferran Torres, a player who scored a lot of goals last year and will continue to do so because he’s a great player, and now we also have Gordon, who I understand can also play in this position. Should Barcelona let Marc-André ter Stegen join Ajax on loan or keep him as backup?

This summer, Bernal has been able to rest more, without having to recover from an injury during the off-season. “For the past two years, I’ve only had two weeks of vacation, but this year I’ve truly enjoyed it to the fullest. Now, my mind is on getting started and preparing myself,” he said. “I think I’ve already had quite a bit of vacation time this year, so I’m actually looking forward to getting started. I’m starting to train on my own now so I arrive at preseason in good shape, because it takes a bit of effort to get going again after a month of rest.” Bernal showed his goalscoring side apart from his passing ability last season, contributing five goals across all competitions. In the interview, he set his goal for next season was to score at least six or seven times. “Scoring brings a special kind of thrill, especially since I’ve scored at the Camp Nou. I don’t think it’s exactly my primary role, but if I can do it, I’m very happy,” he said. For next season, Bernal has labeled the UEFA Champions League as “unfinished business.” “Ultimately, the Champions League is a very difficult competition – the best teams play in it – and it comes down to a two-legged knockout tie. I think what’s been missing, above all, is giving our absolute best in both matches without losing sight of our style of play,” he said.

Barcelona set Julian Alvarez transfer deadline and ‘won’t wait forever’ for Atletico star
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 27: Julian Alvarez #9 of Argentina looks on during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J match between Jordan and Argentina at Dallas Stadium on June 27, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Barcelona have reportedly set a deadline of the end of the World Cup 2026 to land Julian Alvarez and will move on to other targets if a deal is not done by that time. Club president Joan Laporta has this week confirmed Barcelona have sent in an offer for Alvarez but admitted it won’t last forever, saying: “It remains on the table and the deal could still go through, but the offer is not open-ended.” According to Mundo Deportivo and RAC1, Barcelona “won’t wait forever” for Alvarez and have set the end of World Cup 2026 as their deadline. The final of the tournament is scheduled for July 19th. Barcelona are hoping Atletico will soften their stance and agree to negotiations. If not, it will be up to Alvarez to try and force his club to talk to Barcelona. If it becomes clear at that point that Atletico won’t entertain bids, Barcelona are prepared to move on. The club realise the No. 9 position is crucial and they simply must find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski this summer.

‘The best player we have’ – Diego Simeone breaks silence on Julian Alvarez’s future amid Barcelona transfer talk
Madrid, Spain - November 4: head coach Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid talks to Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD4 match between Atletico de Madrid and R. Union Saint-Gilloise at Estadio Metropolitano on November 4, 2025 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Manu Reino/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images) | DeFodi Images via Getty Images Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has spoken out on Julian Alvarez’s future amid continuing speculation about a summer transfer to Barcelona. Alvarez has said he wants to leave Atletico and feels a transfer is “the best thing for everyone” but Los Colchoneros continue to insist he’s not for sale. There’s been speculation that Simeone is happy for Alvarez to leave as he doesn’t want players who are not 100% committed, but the Atletico boss was certainly full of praise for his striker when quizzed on the situation. “He’s the player we have in mind to create plays around. His future is tomorrow’s match; the best thing for him is to focus on that, not think about everything that’s been said. Things will work themselves out as they always do,” he told ESPN. “From the moment he arrived, I knew he was a different kind of player, one who brought an attacking quality that’s very hard to find. Julián is among the top five in the world. Thanks to his hard work and the growth he experienced at City and Atlético, he’s reached this point and these numbers (market value). We’ll see what happens. “The numbers speak for themselves, he’s had excellent consistency, he’s brought a different kind of quality to the team. We’re very happy with his work, he’s always treated us very well.” Simeone also revealed that he has spoken to Alvarez during the World Cup but only about how he’s feeling and Argentina’s chances of victory. “I ran into him when I went to see Giuliano and we chatted a bit about how his ankle was and how important he is to the team. In the last match he already showed a different intensity and Argentina is going to need him, he’s an extraordinary player,” he added. “Julián is the best footballer we have at Atlético Madrid since he arrived, and hopefully he can achieve with the national team what he did in the last World Cup.” Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also spoken about the situation this week, saying a bid has been lodged with Atletico and that he’s known the striker has wanted to play for the Catalans for a long time.

Should Anthony Gordon start ahead of Marcus Rashford for England against Mexico?
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - JULY 1: Anthony Gordon #18 of England runs up the field during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between England and Congo DR at Atlanta Stadium on July 1, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Andrew J. Clark/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images) | ISI Photos via Getty Images Anthony Gordon versus Marcus Rashford. They’re on the same team, but they are being compared every week. It’s the subplot that’s got FC Barcelona fans and England fans both wondering – who will start next? Who will play best? And how will they perform this club season? Rashford recently returned to Manchester United after his loan spell with Barcelona officially ended. Not physically, of course, as he was with England’s expedition for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But the Catalans turned down the chance to sign him permanently using the purchase clause in the original agreement. Barça have already signed Gordon from Newcastle United as his replacement. Rashford did not disappoint wearing blaugrana – he won La Liga and contributed goals and assists. However, his salary was a stumbling block. Gordon would take less money in salary (though the transfer fee was higher) and, it’s hoped, will perform at least as well, if not better. For England, Gordon was the starter at first, until Rashford was given the job. Pundits said Rashford became the starter because his performances were stronger. That changed in England’s come-from-behind win over DR Congo, where Gordon came off the bench and gave two assists. Now, manager Thomas Tuchel has a decision to make again. Will he persist with Rashford, or will he reward Gordon’s involvement in their win by giving him a start in the next round of the World Cup? Either way, both are sure to play a part in a supremely important duel against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Do you think Gordon should start ahead of Rashford against Mexico? Barcelona could profit off USA star Sergiño Dest transfer
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - JUNE 19: Sergino Dest #2 of the United States applauds fans after being substituted during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match between USA and Australia at Seattle Stadium on June 19, 2026 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty Images) | Getty Images FC Barcelona are preparing to cash a check that may be getting larger every time the US men’s national team advances in the FIFA World Cup. That’s because they own a 20% sell-on fee on Sergiño Dest, who is having a good World Cup as a starter for the Americans. Dest has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich and now Bayer Leverkusen rumored as potential destinations. The move to Leverkusen is said to be edging closer, with the Germans offering around 20 million euros, and his current club, PSV Eindhoven, holding out for 25. If the deal goes through for that latter amount, Barcelona would earn 5 million in the process. A product of the AFC Ajax academy, Dest was signed by Barcelona at a young age to take over the right-back position. He was then loaned to AC Milan, followed by PSV. A severe injury complicated his time at PSV, and the Dutch club refused a purchase clause worth 11 million at the end of his loan. In the end, they got him for free. That turned out to be a great decision as Dest has improved over time and matured as a player. Now, he’s ready to make the jump back to Europe’s top five leagues, at the same time as he’s playing an important role for his national team at a home World Cup. The United States won their round of 32 knockout match against Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 yesterday, with Dest as a starter. They play Belgium next.

(Photo by Pablo Rodriguez/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona have confirmed young star Dani Rodriguez has reached an agreement to leave the club and move to Dinamo Zagreb. The transfer has been rumored for a little while and has now been made official by the Catalan giants. Here’s Barcelona’s official statement: “FC Barcelona and Dinamo Zagreb have reached an agreement for the transfer of Dani Rodríguez. The club retains a buy-back option on the player, as well as a percentage of any future sale.” There’s no mention of a fee but reports in Croatia claim that Zagreb will pay €600,000 in instalments for the youngster. Yet Barcelona do retain control of the player with a buy-back option and the percentage of a future sale. Rodriguez is not the only young star heading out of Barcelona. Quim Junyent has also moved on and signed a deal with Almeria. Junyent is another player who had been tipped to have a bright future at Barcelona but hasn’t been able to make a breakthrough and has now signed with Almeria until 2032. The winger then spoke about his role after the match and explained why he generally hates being a substitute and having to watch the game from the sidelines. “To be honest when I’m a substitute I’m a nervous wreck. When I’m on the pitch, I’m calm but when I’m a sub I don’t handle it very well. I was desperate to get on, I felt I could change the game.,” he told reporters. “We train hard and we play hard. I just try to make an impact. I tried to be direct. I knew they’d be tired so I just tried to be direct, tried to make them more tired and give the ball to Harry.” Gordon will now hope his assists mean that he can start England’s next game against Mexico in the last 16 of World Cup 2026.

What is Barcelona’s best Plan B if they miss out on Julian Alvarez?
Barcelona's Spanish forward #10 Lamine Yamal (L) vies for the ball with Atletico Madrid's Argentine forward #19 Julian Alvarez during the UEFA Champions League quarter final second leg football match between Club Atletico de Madrid and FC Barcelona at Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on April 14, 2026. (Photo by Javier SORIANO / AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty Images The sports news over the past few weeks has been more awash than usual with rumours linking Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez to Barcelona. When the player himself admitted during the World Cup that it was time for him to move from Los Rojiblancos, the rumour mill went into overdrive, as it had when Barca had, apparently, made a €100m offer for the Argentine striker’s services. From what’s been said, Atleti are in no mood to play ball with any club and intend to hold the player to his contract. In practice, as we’ve all seen plenty of times before, that isn’t necessarily a scenario that works. The dance that clubs do in order to appease their support before almost always eventually caving in is preposterous, even if one does take the view that they can’t be blamed for the same. In any event, just how realistic is it that Barca can sign a player who would surely be at the top of most culers’ wish lists? Everyone will remember the Nico Williams chase and how that panned out, and this really does have echoes of that transfer saga. If Joan Laporta fails to deliver the goods once again, questions are rightly going to be asked, but the major one has to be, if not Alvarez then who? With Robert Lewandowski having left the club, and Ferran Torres coming to the final year of his contract – and yet to put pen to paper on an extension – there are reasons to believe that the club might not actually have a decent back-up plan. Torres can play as the central striker of course, and it’s also entirely possible that with a bigger run of games, he may once again find the form that everyone knows that he’s capable of when he’s on his game. Assuming such a scenario hasn’t entered Hansi Flick’s thinking, however, Barca are once again left with the potential of a summer of transfer upheaval, with no guarantee that it will end successfully. Harry Kane will seemingly sign a new deal with Bayern Munich, ruling that particular avenue out, and Marcus Rashford’s ship appears to have sailed, too. Other names have been mentioned but perhaps more in hope than in expectation. Eli Kroupi Junior is still only 20 and lacks experience, Mikel Oyarzabal says he’s happy at Real Sociedad, while Alexander Sørloth and Dusan Vlahovic have been linked with other clubs as well as Barca. Though there’s still plenty of time for things to change to a more positive outlook as far as Barca are concerned, of course, and it would be unbelievably amateurish of the club to allow Lewy to leave without a Plan B, but all the while things stay in abeyance, there’s a possibility that things could go awry. And that isn’t really good enough…. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: What is Barcelona’s best Plan B if they can’t sign Julian Alvarez this summer? Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, opinions and answers in the comments section below!

Marc-Andre ter Stegen in Barcelona to finalize loan transfer to Ajax

(Photo by Bruno Penas/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been spotted back in the city on Thursday to finalise a loan transfer to Ajax. According to Jijantes, the German goalkeeper is back from vacation “and expects to finalize his departure in the coming hours.” He already has an agreement in place with Michel’s side and is now awaiting the green light from Barcelona. One potential problem is Ter Stegen’s salary as Ajax are reportedly only prepared to pay a fraction of his wages during the loan. Barcelona have been busy finalizing exits ahead of the start of pre-season and Ter Stegen appears to be the next player out of the door. The Catalans have seen Ansu Fati complete a permanent transfer to Monaco, while Inaki Pena has joined Panathinaikos. Barcelona have also handed Andreas Christensen a new two-year deal that includes a 50% pay cut, freeing up more space on the wage bill.

(Photo by Aitor Alcalde Colomer/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona reportedly remain interested in Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra and are planning on making a move to try and convince the 23-year-old to join the club. A new report from Plaza Deportivo claims that Deco wants to offer Guerra a six-year contract in a bid to prove to the midfielder that the club are betting on him for the long-term. Barcelona want to try and convince the midfielder that a transfer to Camp Nou is his best option and will then approach Valencia to discuss a possible summer transfer, per the report. Valencia do not want Guerra to leave under any circumstances but could wave goodbye to the Spain star if his release clause is triggered. Previous reports have claimed his clause is currently €40 million and then rises to €60m, meaning that if Barcelona really do want to make a move it may have to come sooner rather than later. This rumor is picking up momentum but still seems curious as Barca’s focus has to be signing a new striker and Hansi Flick already has plenty of excellent options in midfield. Anthony Gordon compares Harry Kane to Lionel Messi amid Barcelona transfer talk

(Photo by Jessica Rinaldi/The Boston Globe via Getty Images) | Boston Globe via Getty Images Anthony Gordon bagged two assists for Harry Kane on Wednesday as England beat DR Congo in the World Cup to progress to the last 16. The England winger has signed for Barcelona this summer from Newcastle, while Kane has been linked with a move to Camp Nou throughout the season. Speaking after the game, Gordon spoke about Kane and compared him to Barcelona great Lionel Messi. “It’s amazing to be around him every day because when you’re around someone at the elite level, he’s at the very, very top of football,” he said. “He’s having a season that’s only ever been beat by Leo Messi, the greatest footballer of all time. So that speaks to the level he’s playing at. “When you’re around someone like that, you want to pick up as many habits and watch everything he does to see why he’s at that level. It’s no accident. It’s consistency every day: how hard he works, every finishing drill, he does it with passion, he does it with seriousness. He never, ever misses a beat. It’s amazing to be around him. He’s definitely an inspiration to all of us. “As soon as he hit it, I knew it was going in. I was already celebrating, but anyone can score a good goal. Anyone at this level can place the ball in the top corner but it’s the consistency that he does. Every day in training, every game is phenomenal. He plays at such a high, high level.” Barcelona have enquired about Kane during the World Cup, with the striker out of contract next year. However, it’s been reported Kane will stay at Bayern and sign a new contract, while Barca will focus on Julian Alvarez instead.

Anthony Gordon offered Barcelona advice by Emmanuel Petit after €80m transfer
ORLANDO, FLORIDA - JUNE 10: Anthony Gordon #18 of England celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the International Friendly match between England and Costa Rica at Inter&Co Stadium on June 10, 2026 in Orlando, Florida. (Photo by Richard Pelham/Getty Images) | Getty Images Anthony Gordon has been offered some advice from former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit after making the switch from Newcastle to the Camp Nou. Petit says he’s not yet convinced about the transfer but says that Gordon must show his character on the pitch if he is to prove a success with Hansi Flick’s side. “When Barcelona signed him for £70m, I was thinking, why? Why that price tag, and why him? Does he have the technical skills and movement to please the Barcelona DNA? I am not sure. The competition to earn a place in the first eleven will be very difficult,” he told Barca Blaugranes on behalf of Jackpot City Casino. “My best advice for him, putting aside his quality, is to be strong and show personality on the pitch. This is very important. When you play for Barcelona, especially upfront, you have to show your character. I am not convinced with Gordon.” Petit also urged Gordon to take a step up and warned that expectations will be high after joining a club where fans have witnessed such brilliant players feature out wide over the years. “When he plays for Newcastle, I think he can disappear easily into the game. He doesn’t always make a huge difference, and the regularity of his performances is questioned. I want him to act as a proper top footballer on the pitch: take the ball and make a difference,” he added. “Show your character and your personality. If he doesn’t do that, he is going to have a lot of trouble, not only in the dressing room but with the fans. “Barcelona fans have lived with Lamine Yamal, Lionel Messi, and so many great Ballon d’Or winners on the flanks. He has a huge responsibility, so I think there is still room for improvement.”

Can Ronald Araujo force his way back into Barcelona’s starting XI?
(Photo by Diego Souto/Getty Images) | Getty Images It does seem odd contemplating whether your club captain will be a mainstay of the starting XI, but given what’s happened over the past 12 months, it’s a question worth asking of Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan has spoken openly about his mental health issues, which the club quite rightly gave him time off to deal with. Above anything else, a player’s health, whether mental or physical, is paramount. If neither is at their best level, then a spell on the sidelines is not only necessary but needed to aid their recovery. In terms of a player’s form, however, that’s a part of their game which, if consistently not good, can see them consigned to the substitutes’ bench. Of course, issues away from the pitch could be as much a cause of the loss of form as anything else, making it a real double-edged sword. The club have seemingly been understanding, open and honest in their dealings with the centre-back to this point, giving him minutes when appropriate whilst also ensuring they remain competitive. With Andreas Christensen set to sign a new two-year deal at a vastly reduced salary, however, the Dane gives Hansi Flick yet another option in central defence, alongside Pau Cubarsi, Gerard Martin and Eric Garcia. Should Joao Cancelo be signed and considered the preferred right-back, we can add Jules Kounde to the list of players who can play as a centre-back, making Araujo’s attempts to earn a starting place that much more difficult. The Uruguayan does bring an awful lot to his role, including leadership qualities, pace, power, aerial ability and occasional goalscoring, and that shouldn’t simply be dismissed out of hand either. Despite the odd error, he remains a quality player, and at 27 years of age, still has an awful long time left in the game – at the top level. Yet his injury record is also something of a worry, with the defender’s latest setback meaning he didn’t play a single minute for Uruguay at World Cup 2026. The question that the Barcelona board need to ask themselves is whether he is still good enough for the Blaugranes, be that as a starter or otherwise. Clearly, it’s incumbent on the player to do the work to make the starting XI in any event, but given the plethora of options available to Flick, there’s a cogent argument to be made for the club to potentially cash in at this point. The player’s own wishes should still be taken into account before any transfer discussions begin, and with reports suggesting that Araujo doesn’t intend to leave the club, one must assume that any attempt to ease him out of the exit door will be met with stubborn resistance. So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is: Do you think Ronald Araujo can force his way back into the starting XI at Barcelona? Now it’s over to you! Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, opinions and answers in the comments section below!

‘Deco sent an offer’ – Joan Laporta says Barcelona have made a bid for Julian Alvarez
(Photo by Guillermo Martinez/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Joan Laporta is officially Barcelona president again and spoke about Julian Alvarez at an inauguration event on Wednesday. Barcelona are keen to bring in Alvarez this summer but Atletico continue to insist they haven’t received an offer from the Catalans and that he’s not for sale. Laporta insists that the two clubs have been talking and that Deco submitted a bid, believed to be for 100 million euros, for the Argentina international. “We’ve spoken with Atlético de Madrid and Deco sent an offer. We know the player has wanted to come since before playing for Manchester City,” he said. “I spoke with Gil Marin, who told me that in principle they did not plan to sell. The offer is firm and we will maintain it. We will not be at the expense of what Atlético de Madrid says. “We have a great relationship with Atleti. The offer will remain in force and could be made, but it is not unlimited in time. Atlético says that they do not sell because they had no alternative; now if they have an alternative, we will see.” Marin also admitted previously that he’d spoken with Laporta about Alvarez but also accused the Barca chief of “disrespecting” his club and insisted the Catalans aren’t capable of carrying out such a big-money transfer.

(Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Atletico Madrid CEO Enrique Cerezo says his club were surprised to hear Julian Alvarez say he wanted a transfer away from the club while at the World Cup with Argentina. Alvarez spoke out after Argentina’s win over Austria, telling the world that “the best thing for everyone is a transfer” as he wants to “fulfill a dream.” Cerezo has been asked what he thinks of Alvarez’s statement and continues to insist the forward will not be sold this summer. “It caught us by surprise and we have done what we had to do, say that he is an Atlético de Madrid player and that we have no offers from anyone or anything, and that even if there were offers, we do not want to sell him,” he told RNE. Atletico have since filed a complaint with FIFA and the RFEF against Barcelona and their pursuit of Alvarez and have urged the two organisations to take action against the Catalans. However, Barcelona are still expected to continue efforts to sign Alvarez and are expected to make a bid of up to 130 million euros for the attacker after the World Cup.

(Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Joao Cancelo is reportedly willing to try and force his way out of Al-Hilal in order to complete a permanent transfer to Barcelona. The Portugal international shone on loan in the second half of the season and is eager to stay with the Catalan giants. Cancelo still has a year left to run on his contract with Al-Hilal but is ready to do his bit to force the move, according to Diario Sport. The Portugal defender has “already made it clear to the Saudi club, through his agent, that he has no intention of fulfilling the year of his contract that remains, so he has asked them to negotiate his departure to the Blaugrana club.” Al-Hilal have already told Cancelo to report for pre-season after his involvement at World Cup 2026 is over and want a transfer fee for the defender so they can make a profit on his signing. Yet the report adds that Cancelo feels “cheated” by Al-Hilal, something he’s already said publicly last month. He told reporters: “At Al Hilal, unfortunately, I had people who didn’t tell me the truth. They told me they were going to register me on the Saudi league list, and then, when the day came, they didn’t.” The end result is that Cancelo “has not intention of returning” and will do all he can to join Barcelona, with a two-year deal already in place at Camp Nou.

‘Julian Alvarez is a great player’ – Joan Garcia hails Barcelona target and talks up Anthony Gordon transfer

(Photo By Irina R. Hipolito/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has shared his thoughts on Julian Alvarez and Anthony Gordon while at World Cup 2026 with Spain. Alvarez is the club’s top transfer target ahead of the new season, and Garcia has become the latest Barcelona player to shower the striker with praise. “Everyone knows that Julián is a great player, but he is from Atlético de Madrid. We can do little about what he and the clubs decide,” he told RAC 1. “You don’t know if what comes out in the press is true or not and we don’t give it much importance. The more good players you have in the squad, the higher the quality.” Garcia also had some kind words for Gordon and thinks he will be a good addition to the squad following his transfer from Newcastle. “Gordon can bring us a lot. We already suffered from him against Newcastle,” he added. “He has intensity and pressure. With the ball he also makes very good decisions, he makes his teammates play very well. He’s a great signing and will help us a lot.” All three players are currently preparing for Round of 32 ties at World Cup 2026. Garcia and Spain face Austria, Gordon’s England are up against DRC Congo and Alvarez will take on Cape Verde with Argentina.

OFFICIAL: Salma Paralluelo leaves FC Barcelona

(Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images) | Getty Images Three-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner Salma Paralluelo has officially left FC Barcelona after not renewing her contract. The 22-year-old left winger, known for her amazing burst of speed and long list of honors, is now a free agent. In addition to three European titles with Barça, she won 12 other titles with the club. She was instrumental in many successes for the Catalans, memorably scoring twice and assisting once more in the CL final against OL Lyonnes. Those two goals in Barcelona’s 4-0 triumph ended up being her last for the club. Arsenal, London City Lionesses, Paris Saint-Germain, and OL themselves are interested in her services. She’s due a big payout considering her success. Chelsea have already reportedly exited the bidding due to her financial demands. In addition to her achievements at club level, Paralluelo was instrumental in Spain’s FIFA World Cup win in 2023. She’s the first player, male or female, to win the competition in addition to the U-20 and U-17 editions. It’ll be an interesting summer window for Barcelona Femení. Alexia Putellas, Ona Batlle, and Mapi León have already left. The club has some big holes to fill in the transfer market.

Andreas Christensen’s new Barcelona contract includes 50% pay cut and exit clause

(Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) | Getty Images Andreas Christensen is expected to sign a new two-year contract extension at Barcelona this week to extend his stay with the Catalan giants. The Dane was earning a gross salary of approximately €12 million but will now earn €6m (€3m net) per season. The new contract also contains a termination clause that means both club and player have the option to cancel the second year. Christensen’s time at Barcelona has been disrupted by injuries, with the latest issue being a serious knee problem that kept him sidelined for a large chunk of last season. Yet despite his physical issues, the Catalans still value his technical ability, versatility and professionalism and so have been willing to keep him on despite his lack of game time. Christensen also made it clear that staying was his priority and he’s now set to continue his career in Catalunya.

Voices within Atlético ready to strike Julián Álvarez deal with Barcelona
MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 29: Julian Alvarez of Atletico de Madrid celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Semi Final First Leg match between Atletico de Madrid and Arsenal FC at Riyadh Air Metropolitano on April 29, 2026, in Madrid, Spain. (Photo By Dennis Agyeman/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Atlético Madrid has kept a public posture with zero wiggle room: Julián Álvarez is not for sale. But Barcelona think there are dissenting voices within the capital club’s top brass, who may gain steam as time goes on, according to the latest rumors. Barcelona are not going to give up easily, especially after the player himself made it public he wants to leave. The situation now is at a stalemate, with Álvarez pushing for his exit and the club unwilling to bend. However, it’s understood both the player and Barça may leave the topic alone while Argentina prepares their FIFA World Cup knockout games. Of course, Barça have other options in case the transfer fizzles out, but those options will not be activated for a while. The Catalans think that Atlético may indeed come to recognize that a sale is best for all parties involved, but even in that case, they will try to delay the inevitable for a stronger negotiating position and more money. Relationships between the two clubs are somewhat icy. Even personal relationships are not what they could be. For example, Atlético’s sporting director Mateu Alemany used to be Joan Laporta’s employee, and some say their parting left some bruised egos. There have been rumors of a money-plus-players deal, although finding which players both would accept joining Atlético and would be wanted by the club could prove difficult. Rumors say Atlético want Ferran Torres, but he doesn’t want to go there. On the other hand, Marc Casadó might be more willing to move but Atléti has not been fully convinced by him. Expect more movements on this deal, but for now, Barcelona may take a pause, at least in terms of sending offers.

(Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Lamine Yamal has been on media duty with Spain ahead of their World Cup last 32 tie against Austria. The Barcelona teenager has admitted he would like to see his team to sign Julian Alvarez and has followed that up by telling the Argentina star he would be most welcome at Camp Nou. “Right now I’m not thinking about it much, but I hope so, because he’s a great player,” he told Cadena SER. “If he comes, we’ll welcome him with open arms because he’ll be coming to the best club in the world, with the best fans in the world, and in what I consider the best city in the world. If I were him, I would do it. We’ll be waiting for him if he wants to come. Go for it.” Yamal is just the latest Barcelona player to talk up a move for Alvarez and praise the Argentina star amid speculation about a move to Catalunya. The message from the dressing room therefore seems clear, the players would love to have Alvarez in the team next season.

Atletico file complaint against Barcelona over Julian Alvarez pursuit

(Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Atletico Madrid have reportedly now filed an official complaint with FIFA and the RFEF against Barcelona and their pursuit of Julian Alvarez. Los Colchoneros have previously threatened to take action against Barcelona after being left furious by Alvarez after he told the media at World Cup 2026 that he wanted a transfer. According to COPE, Atletico have now written to both organizations and called for an investigation opened and the Catalans to be sanctioned. The Madrid side believe that Barcelona have been “negotiating with a player under contract” which is prohibited but seems to happen all the time. Alvarez didn’t mention Barcelona by name when he spoke about his future but there has been heavy speculation linking the club with a summer move. Indeed Barcelona are expected to make a bid for the player after World Cup 2026 but it’s still not known if Atletico will allow the Argentina star to leave this summer.

Ansu Fati completes permanent transfer from Barcelona to Monaco

(Photo by Valery HACHE / AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty Images Barcelona have confirmed Ansu Fati has completed a permanent transfer to Monaco after a season on loan with the French side. Fati has penned a four-year contract with Monaco, bringing an end to his career with Barcelona, with the club set to receive a fee of 11 million euros for the 23-year-old. Here’s the club’s official statement. “FC Barcelona and AS Mònaco have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ansu Fati. The 23-year-old marks the end of his seventh stage with the Blaugrana after having played a total of 123 official matches with the first team, in which he has scored 29 goals. The Club reserves a percentage of a future sale.” Fati scored 12 times in all competitions for Monaco in 2025-26 and enjoyed his time with the Ligue 1 club. He will now continue his career with Monaco after waving goodbye to Barcelona, the club he joined all the way back in 2012 as a 10-year-old. The forward burst onto the scene when he made his debut against Real Betis aged just 16 years and 298 days in August 2019. Just days later he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer (a record which Lamine Yamal has since beaten) when he scored against Osasuna. However, injuries then disrupted his career and led to him being sent out on loan to Brighton and then to Monaco. It was great to see Fati back scoring goals last season and let’s wish him all the best for the future. Good luck, Ansu Fati!

Five questions about Anthony Gordon’s €80m transfer to Barcelona
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 29: English player Anthony Gordon poses during his official presentation as new player of FC Barcelona in Barcelona, on May 29, 2026. (Photo by Adria Puig/Anadolu via Getty Images) | Anadolu via Getty Images How did Gordon perform at Newcastle? Although his season has not been particularly impressive, despite what the numbers might suggest (17 goals, but nine of them from the penalty spot), the reality is that Anthony Gordon has been a key figure in Newcastle’s project since his arrival. After showing a great level at Everton, the English winger has taken a significant step forward under Eddie Howe, establishing himself as one of the team’s most influential players and playing a major role in both their Carabao Cup triumph and their two Champions League qualifications. What type of player is Gordon? If Barcelona have identified Anthony Gordon as a target, it is largely because of his work rate off the ball. The new Barcelona player is an extremely committed winger when it comes to pressing. In fact, this season, while playing as a centre-forward, he has frequently been seen leading Newcastle’s press. That said, he can sometimes be overaggressive. An example is the red card that he received against Liverpool in August. With the ball, Gordon is a very quick, vertical and dangerous winger, particularly when he can attack the space behind the opposition’s defence. However, when he beats his marker in a one versus one, he usually relies more on his pace than on technical ability. Furthermore, he is not especially good in tight spaces and his finishing needs to sharpen up. Nevertheless, he is a player with plenty of personality, always willing to take responsibility and attack defenders in one-v-one situations. What role will Gordon play at Barcelona? Gordon is naturally a left winger, although this season the former Newcastle player has played in a surprisingly high number of matches as a centre-forward. His primary role, however, would be to strengthen the left flank, with the freedom to cut inside onto his stronger foot. Can he play as a number nine? Yes, but doing so would limit his strengths. It’s also worth saying that he is capable of playing on the right wing, although it has been quite some time since we’ve seen him in that position. Although he has played a lot of minutes as a centre forward this season, Gordon will not play there unless it’s an emergency. As we have said, he doesn’t feel too comfortable in small spaces, a context he will have to face often as a Barça ‘9’. Initially, therefore, he will play a large part of the minutes as a left winger. What remains to be seen is what role he will have under Hansi Flick. Primarily, he comes to give rest to Raphinha, who has been very limited by injuries this season. It is also not ruled out that he could end up winning the position over the Brazilian. Another option could be to see Raphinha occupying the right wing, while Lamine Yamal, as he has done on occasion in this 25/26, could appear in more interior area Why have Barca paid so much for Gordon? Nobody doubts Gordon’s quality, but the transfer fee is what has generated the most debate about his signing. Modern football seasons are becoming increasingly demanding, with an ever more congested fixture schedule. Barcelona, for example, have played 57 matches during the 2025/26 season and, when international fixtures are included, some of their players could easily reach 75 appearances in a single campaign. This workload helps explain a growing trend among Europe’s elite clubs: investing heavily not only in starting players but also in squad depth, ensuring the team remains competitive when injuries occur or rotation becomes necessary. The €75 million spent by Manchester City on Omar Marmoush and the €69 million paid by Arsenal for Eberechi Eze are clear examples of this. Nowadays, competing for every major trophy requires much more than just a strong starting XI; it demands a deep and high-quality squad. That being said, this transfer also has to be viewed in the context of the inflated Premier League market, where almost any player, especially an English one, commands a significant fee. To put things into perspective, across both the summer and winter transfer windows, Premier League clubs signed 152 different players, per Transfermarkt. Of those, only 33 (nine of them goalkeepers) cost less than €10 million, just 22%. Another statistic is that, of the 14 most expensive transfers completed since the pandemic, when the Premier League truly began to dominate the market (2020/21–2025/26), 11 were made by Premier League clubs, while only two involved players leaving England (Harry Kane and Jhon Durán). What impact is Gordon having at World Cup 2026? Many Barça fans likely used this World Cup as an opportunity to get a closer look at Anthony Gordon, but they have probably come away underwhelmed. The club’s new signing has yet to make the expected impact, struggling to influence games and often going unnoticed. In England’s third group-stage match against Panama, Thomas Tuchel even opted to start Marcus Rashford ahead of him. It’s normal for the signing of Gordon to generate some controversy among Barça fans. €80 million was paid for a player who wasn’t on the radar of Barça fans and who has no La Liga experience. However, he has certain virtues that could make him a very important piece for Hansi Flick, such as verticality and commitment without the ball. It is a profile that in certain aspects is similar to Raphinha, although in others it is quite different. The price? Only time will tell whether Barça got it right or not. It seems right now the club may have overpaid for his services, but, at the same time, we are reaching a point where the transfer market is so inflated that it is very difficult to sign a player for his real price or less. Gossip: Barcelona offered to include Alejandro Balde in Julian Alvarez transfer
BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 17: Alejandro Balde of FC Barcelona gestures during the Spanish league, LaLiga EA Sports, football match played between FC Barcelona and Real Betis at Spotify Camp Nou stadium on May 17, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo By Javier Borrego/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Barcelona were reportedly willing to offer Atletico Madrid the chance to include either Marc Casado or Alejandro Balde as part of a deal to sign Julian Alvarez. An update from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barca put the names of the two players on the table in recent transfer discussions with Los Colchoneros. Barcelona were willing to offer €100 million, paid in six installments, and also spoke about Casado and Balde during the talks. Atletico were quick to dismiss the idea of signing Casado even though the midfielder would have been willing to make the move to the Spanish capital. Barca also mentioned Balde, particularly as Atletico had been interested in Marc Cucurella, but that idea didn’t go down well either. Atletico are now closing in on a deal for Alejandro Grimaldo, with the former Barca defender set to sign from Bayer Leverkusen. As for Barcelona, it seems Casado may leave this summer after struggling for minutes, while Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for Balde but expect the defender to stay.

Alvarez made waves last week when he spoke out publicly about wanting to leave Diego Simeone’s side while at World Cup 2026. Pubill has been asked about Alvarez’s comments and thinks that if he’s not happy at the club, then he should move on. “His statements were a bit strange. If he’s not happy at Atletico, we’ll see what happens, but I understand he’ll leave,” he told TV3. “You always want a player like that on the team. A player who is not happy stops being as good.” Atletico have insisted they want to keep Alvarez but his future remains in doubt. He was left out of the club’s promotional photos for the launch of their new home kit this week, suggesting his future may well lie away from the Spanish capital.

Barcelona expected to make €130m offer for Julian Alvarez after World Cup 2026
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 27: Julian Alvarez #9 of Argentina looks on during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J match between Jordan and Argentina at Dallas Stadium on June 27, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) | FIFA via Getty Images Barcelona are expected to make a €130 million offer to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez after World Cup 2026. Tensions between the two clubs are high right now after Alvarez publicly expressed his desire to leave while with Argentina at the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Atletico are pretty angry with the situation and have insisted they want Alvarez to stay. Yet the forward wants to go and Barcelona are eager to make his wishes come true. The latest update on the saga comes from The Athletic and a brief report that states “all signs” point to Barcelona making a €130m bid. Sources at the club “insist they can afford it” despite Barca’s well-documented financial issues. Mundo Deportivo are also reporting that Barca won’t give up on Alvarez and “will pull out all the stops to try and sign him” this summer. The club also feel they can’t rush things due to the player’s involvement at World Cup 2026. Atletico will then have a big decision to make if Barca do send in big bid. Diego Simeone is reportedly in favor of a sale as he doesn’t want players who are not 100% committed to the cause in his squad.
